How much coffee is to much

    Gday All,

things have gone quiet on the prawn front the last couple of days, so am doing alot of travelling to different grounds, (using 100ltrs diesel per hour) and doing long hours awake, so the coffee intake has gone thru the roof.

How many cups per day is to much, well im doing 25-30 per 24hrs, but im just glad I dont smoke..

Interested in what others turn to when the pressure is on and long hours of work are being done..

Going to start praying to the prawn god soon..

    Cheers Ean

Question: What is the safe or recommended amount of caffeine one should take in one day?
What is the safe or recommended amount of caffeine one should take in one day? With all the beverages like the so called energy drinks and powders to add to drinks that contain caffeine, the question was brought up as to what is a safe amount per day. Joe Daniel S. - About.com User

Answer: Caffeine is often consumed in the form of coffee, tea and energy drinks with the idea that the caffeine will increase our cognitive functioning and improve our mood. Judging by the length of the waiting lines in Starbucks, this must especially be true in the mornings. In fact, many of us feel like we really can't function until we get our first cup of coffee. It is generally agreed that consuming up to 300 mg of caffeine per day is safe. That would be about the amount of caffeine you would get from three cups of coffee. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant may want to decrease that amount or skip the caffeine altogether.
Caffeine is a stimulant and some studies show that small amounts of caffeine may increase your mental response time. Other studies show that the cognitive improvements and mood elevation may not really be due to the beneficial aspects of caffeine as much as ending the withdrawal symptoms we feel when we haven't had our morning "fix" yet.
Increasing the amount of caffeine you take in over 300 mg per day may give you "caffeine jitters." Larger amounts of caffeine may make you irritable, sleepless and may even trigger anxiety and cause diarrhea.
Kicking the caffeine habit isn't so good either. Caffeine withdrawal can give you headaches, make you crabby, give you muscle aches and generally you may feel miserable for a few days. However, after a week or so, the withdrawal symptoms will pass.
Caffeine is not only found in coffee, it is also found in black tea, green tea, chocolate, some soft drinks, energy drinks and over the counter medications.

I just think about the amount of Cigs that old skippers of mine used to smoke when things got like this..

Plus 25 is only about 1 1/8 of a cup per hour at the moment so its not that bad Now where's that dictionary so I can find out who the prawn god is..

    Hi Ean

Years ago I had some boys plumbing issues and had a fairly major op to fix it up.

About 6 months later when I was really busy at work , I was finding that I was going for a pee alot more frequently and got a bit concerned.

I went to see my friendly Urologist and we started to chat.

When he asked me how much coffee and water I drank in a day and I replied about 15 coffees and 2 litres of water he told me to get out

He said any normal person would spend most of their time on the toot.

How do you sneak off for a pee

Do you do the Long Distance truck driver thing and use a 4 litre juice bottle or just go over the side

We will be up your way in September and doing Darwin, Smiths Point , Maningrida and Nhulumbuy.

    Good luck with the prawns.

PM me and I'll give you a good prawn joke

My night shifts are 2000 til 0600. I dont have to be on the premises but ready to close the doors within 45 minutes.
I always start the shift period with a double shot of real coffee and then a RedBull after the first call comes in. 10 minutes after takeoff a strong instant Coffee and a couple of bikkys follow.
If the job keeps coming a coffee every job is in order, so can be another 2 or 3 from here.
Lucky for boys there is always a shrub to water at most stops, though in this game you have to be able to hold it for nearly 4 hours unless you want to use a bottle. Timing is everything!

I never have any trouble sleeping when shift ends. On day shifts I only have 2 to 3 per day because a long time ago when I was drinking 6-7 my wife pointed out what a grumpy sod I was on days off because I was withdrawing!!.

    cheers

    25-30 cups a day!! Gawd - I wouldn't sleep for a week

Reckon you better cut down or you'll age about 3 years every calendar year at that rate, and have to cark it early 'cause your heart's all worn out
