OF COURSE IT DOES.

Does anyone know whether fitting a Steinbauer unit affects the warranty on a new vehicle? I've found conflicting information, some say its fine, others, not so sure.
One ZD30 owner reckons they're a good idea for that particular engine because they can limit the power if any sensor readings go beyond the pre-programmed parameters which is something that the standard ECU doesn't do (evidently so). Sounds like rot to me.
If it affects the warranty that could be problematic on a 3.2 DI-D Mitsu (10 year /160k power train warranty)
OF COURSE IT DOES.

What Philip said.
But... isn't a Steinbauer plug-in? Therefore couldn't it be removed if there was a problem before the dealer looked at the car?
Trouble is many manufacturers paint mark all the connections going to and from the ECU and you have the break the seal to connect the chip and any seal that has been broken means the warranty is void.Subaru have gone as far as using scews that shear the head if you try to remove them. Pat
As has been said of course it invalidates the warranty.
As for removing it, I really dont agree with people doing that. If you take the chance and it blows up, to an extent I would hope they can see from ECU logs that something was amiss.
There are people using Steinbauer units on their FL2s and Discoverys on this forum, and it strikes me as odd that the product is developed and marketed for more or less new vehicles but compromises the warranty. They're also fairly expensive, have TUV certification and are German manufactured, we're not talking resistors off Ebay. On those grounds I thought it was a pretty reasonable question, I can't see the requirement for the "of course" modifier - it isn't like I started the seven thousandth hiclone thread.
I think it's a fair question. For it to void warranty, the manufacturer would have to prove that the chip caused the fault.
Simply placing a sticker, painting or using special screws on a part does not legally mean anything. You would need to have been notified prior to purchase.
The manufacturer could not blanket void the warranty. That would be a breach of the Trade Practices Act.
Some aftermarket dudes will cover warranty items caused by their device. Do Steinbauer do this?
They appear to have a product warranty of three year only. The DP chip however has new vehicle engine and driveline coverage as well (I mistakenly thought the Steinbauer had this too).
As per your point - there was a Disco owner in the Vic Club who was rejected a warranty claim because of a spring lift, I believe in the end he was successful in his claim because of the remoteness of the failure from the suspension (IIRC it was a problem with the engine)
My brother in law sells go fast parts and Suby will not touch a modded vehicle,if you have a complaint we'll see you in court. He makes that point very clear when selling parts. Pat
