    Should I buy the wreck????

Had the misfortune I being in an accident a few weeks ago.
Small truck rolled backwards in to the front of the Disco on the Nambour connection road, some will know that it is very steep and my incident happened at the steepest point.
The car is a repairable write off, the damage is confined to the front of the car, so apart from left and right quarter panels and front including bonnet, radiator and achilles items the rest is fine.
I could of had it fixed but there was going to be a delay on supply of some parts of up to six weeks maybe longer so I opted to get payed out for a lesser amount as I need a car now.
It is a 2003 TD5 manual, with just over 166K and well maintained, a couple people drove it and commented on how well it ran.
Worse part, I just spent $750 on getting oil leak fixed on gear box, $50 on a new wastgate modulator and I had just changed the oil
Not to mention new brakes all round barley 12 months ago along with a whole lot of other bits and pieces.
So what do you reckon, should I buy the wreck and repair it or buy it back and part it out?
    Cheers Lionel

The forum people will love you if you part it out and advertise here or they will help you fix it up again.

I have hoped for a long time for that to happen to my defender so I could buy back the wreck and make it into a duel cab auto with some good bits on the engine. The 03 models were the vehicle the D2 should have been from the start. Pat

It depends on a couple of things

    1) how much they want for the wreck
    2) do you have the space at home
    3) do you have the time and ability to repair or wreck
    4) could you be bothered with the idea of either
    5) what does the missus say

Buying back and repairing is an option and very tempting as it was a bloody good car.
Although probably not the time, so it would be a very long term project.
Then on the other hand I have the room and the ability to dissasemble.
Not to mention I'm not fan of rebirthing wrecks even though the damage was not to bad.
I will wait and see what the insurance comes back with for a buy back.
In the mean time, feel free to post up what you might want and what you would be pepared to pay.
Keeping in mind it will have to be picked up or shipped from Hervey Bay.
Pick up from Beerwah Sunshine Coast would be an option depending on what the part was.
As for what I'm relacing it with, I also have a 2000 Fairlane Ghia whiched I picked up cheap and will stick with it for a while so I can save for a Series 111 with a TDV6.
    Almost forgot, the missus??????????
Does she get a say, move over ROVER I'm sleeping here tonight.
    Cheers
    Lionel

Just a suggestion, buy the wreck as you know the cond./ history and buy a secondhand d2 and put all the good bit's across. There is 1 for sale in sydney through grays that would suit you, it has a blown head gasket so is itching for a rebuild (or td5) .
