Holy Smokes batman!!! How heavy is your camper? How fast do you go?
My 3.9 is pretty well modified but I get 14.5-15L per 100Km at 100-110 with my 650 or so Kg camper on flat ground. I get about 17 on hilly country or on outback tracks eg Plenty/Tanami

This weekend I went to the Snowys and got 17 , from Central Coast/ M7/Hume to Yass/the Wee Jasper and tracks across to Tumut.

Next tank was Tumut to Ravine with say 30% low range/back onto Long Plains/Brindabellas- Broken Wheel/ Boundary/ Brindabella rd /Canberra/Goulburn at 23l per 100Km.

AND I still have a 3.9 and the mods cost less than 3K over time.
1 Thor manifold ( much more torque down low)
2 Unichip to control ign timing ( this is biggest economy gain)
3 Self modded heads
4 O2 sensors to ensure 14.7:1 Fuel air. ( there is a how to in projects)
5 snorkel
6 free flow exhaust
Look unless your camper weighs over 1000Kg and you travel at 130 everywhere there is something wrong with your engine tuning to get such terrible economy.

First thing I would do is get a diagnostic from a specialist with a dyno to see what the F/A mixtures are and what timing you have under load.

philipA thanks i dont have camper as of yet my 30 ltr per 100km is all the time loaded or empty seems to make no diff but goes like the clappers i cant believe you do so well on fuel thats a dream most people here in adelaide recon 20 to 25 is normal also on lpg or petrol makes no diff as for dianostics i live north of Adelaide and the mechanic that Knows heaps about RR that i use is mostly diesel work and does not have stuff for petrol engines Adelaide sucks for RR help i have spent heaps on idiots that think they know whats wrong and still comes back the same engine has only done around 140k and runs well and believe it or not does not drip oil the mechanic cant believe it thats not to say theres no oil on things over time the trans gets abit oily but a steam clean once a year takes care of that

hi again for got to ask how u moded your heads, all ready have exstractors and free flowing 2 1/2 inch exhaust with no res also got Snorkle and what or how do you get and fit a unichip.

Unichips have gone out of favour a bit now as they charge dealers a monthly fee for the software.
Haltech now does a piggyback which does the same thing.
I would think Triumph Rover Spares could help but I was neutral on my only transaction with them.
Have a look here for SA dealers. Call a couple and see what they say. the product is a Haltech Interceptor.

BUT I reiterate that there is something wrong with your engine, probably the water temp sensor or MAF

yer i a gree that the engine has something going on and i think i nead to sort it out be for going haltech way but first how do u check the MAF and how would the temp sensor efect fuel and is that the same one that works the temp gauge. i only two months ago fitted a 4 core as the origanal dumpt it all, thank you for the low level warning light and beeper never had any isues with temp but went 4 core as i always do over kill or as my mate says the MAC factor will look into o2 sencers as well.

There are two temp senders. One for the gauge and one for the EFI system. If the EFI system thinks the engine is cold it will give cold start enrichment (think choke). This will give high fuel useage.

Loaded it gets about 4.44l/100km per passenger. A car will take 5 people typically and use about 9-13l/100km on the highway also with all of their gear, where the A380 will use 22.2l/100km for the same 5 people.

Interestingly they say the A380 is more efficient than a 747, but according to my calculation is 2100Vs1900 litres per 100km and 4.44Vs4.14 litres per 100km per passenger.

BTW if you fitted a new thermostat it MUST be over 80c as the injection adds fuel under 80C.
It is best to fit an 88C thermostat as originally fitted.

You asked earlier how I modded my heads.
First I did a lot of study on head design and modification, then read "Tuning Rover v8s" chapters on head mods.
I had the inlet guides cut to the roof of the port, opened the ports , but did most work shaping the bowl around the inlet valve to take away any steps. There is no room for a 5 angle valve seat on a Rover head as the valve is too small.
I feel the most important work I did was taking away casting imperfections in the exhaust port in the valve bowl area. It is clear that over time the Rover castings have worn and there is a large step below the exhaust valve.
I also opened the combustion chamber wall near the inlet valve to give the desired clearance.
I shaved 50 thou from the heads and used composite gaskets , so effectively there is say 15-20 thou off the heads which allied to the chamber changes means the CR is up only a small amount.

This was all worth 7% approx in power and probably nothing in economy.
