    Doesn't help much . If it is all local stuff I wouldn't see them. I do a lot of km Adelaide to Horsham (once or twice a month).

    I have had a holden V6 in a RRC and it was O.K.
    Borderline and cost a packet, too much electrics too. Yuck.

    Resale was wowful also. Dropped a bundle.
    I had 3 RRC's with a 4.6 conversion, stacks more power than the 3.9 and I added Haltech with gas also.
    Absolute dream and cost is about $8-12K dpending on how much work you will do.

    I hate to say it but a Isuzu would be your best bet, the later higher revving 4bde is a 3.6 Turbo. For remote area driving you want absolute reliability, economy and range plus enough torque to tow a trailer etc.
    This might also suit you as a semi comp truck as it will crawl up a wall if asked especially with all you mods.
    Not sure how it will handle the auto box but that is another matter.

    I am saying this not because I like these donks but they are genuinely good and have heaps of power.

    Only for those that don't know, I'll wire the engine/auto harness, including making it in around 5 hrs, allow another 5 for gauges, alt feeds etc

    I have know idea why anyone would want to fit a V6

    If you want to fall over, the 4 Kenworths I have with 600HP Cummins Signatures in them get about 2.2kms per 1ltr loaded


    has any one compared the load that a road train / truckl carries and fuel consumption to a landy? is it comparable? I suspect the prime mover has better fuel consumption once weight is taken into consideration

    I can't comment on the conversions but i know of a pair of kenworths with cat c16 that are averaging 760 metres to the litre with three trailers, those crates catch a bit of wind the signatures are doing one to 1.1 with the same crates

    thanks so far for all the feed back but truck engines might be a little big? thanks covercare those fuel figures are way better than i am getting now like half if i can get around 20 ltr per 100km will be grate. i can fit weld and make most things my brother has access to a lazer cutter and i also have a two post hoist the isuzu sounds good but were can you get them and how much because i can get a Gen III and a 4L80E auto for around $3.5k to $4k all up then marks adaptors has every thing i cant make to allow me to use the same LT230 transfer box and i think you need to use the 4L80E trans on isuzu which is fine but if isuzu cost more than $3k its not worth it. also would a strocked 5ltr be as good as 3.9 or better because i find the 3.9 is quite good even when loaded but add a camper to that it might slow it down a bit.

    I have a carb 350 in a 74 2 door, originally mated to an lT 95 with an adaptor probably made by Hadfield in Castlemaine. Now mated to a C4/9.

    Never measured petrol consumption but would be over 20km / l. Runs on gas nearly all the time with an old Impco system. Gets about 4km /l.

    Combined range would be about 600 k's and is an issue.

    Fit an Isuzu.

    Try looking at a 4.6 conversion. you could get away with not getting it engineered, as to the untrained eye it looks like a 3.9. Most of the bits off your 3.9 are retained ie: injection, manifold, looms etc etc. It would have a lot more go than the 3.9 and you would still have to be under 30L per 100kms . The ZF should be up to the job as well.

    And with the money you save you could get an aftermarket ECU, tune, some head work, cam etc which will give you more punch and if used with not to much right foot:, it wouldnt be to bad on fuel.

    I have looked into this conversion to and think the 4.6 is most cost effective way to (bang for your buck). And as it is still all Rover it isnt to hard to get bits for if needed.
