Hi PhillipA, AC should not effect DC specific globes and what I can’t understand is why the high beam and fog light globes don’t blow.
These are standard H7 bulbs so should be effected if it was higher voltages causing the problem.
Need to use an oscilloscope to find the real fault.
Doesn't matter who they are made by - you can get Osram or Phillips and probably a number of other globes that will fit in these things.
The issue is that this style of globe was never designed for this duty - they are a projection globe and do not work as well in automotive duty as the conventional globes, such as H1 style.
If they were as good as Lightforce claims them to be, don't you think that the other reputable brands of lighting manufacturers who have been in the game for many years would also be using them. Especially when you consider the price difference - this style of globe is far cheaper to manufacture than conventional globes.
Another problem with running this style of globe is that, if you wish to later convert to HID, you cannot simply go out and buy a "plug in" HID conversion kit (unless you buy the one from Lightforce at a considerably higher cost). You either have to make up a spacer / adapter using trial and error to get the HID globe into the correct position with reference to the reflector, or put up with crap performance from your lights, as the HID light source will be in the incorrect position and will not reflect in accordance with the intended design pattern.

Have just had the car serviced at Ritters. They checked over the electricals and found everything to be normal. They had a reading of 14.32volts at the alternator, so maybe it's time to pull the Lightforce apart and see what's going on inside. Then if all is ok, maybe I'll just have to twist my rubbery arm and go for the HID kit.
Pffft... Who told you that!!!!Originally Posted by BMKal

Don't see that you've done anything here but confirm what I previously posted.
From what I previously said - "Another problem with running this style of globe is that, if you wish to later convert to HID, you cannot simply go out and buy a "plug in" HID conversion kit (unless you buy the one from Lightforce at a considerably higher cost)."
If you think that $170 for a HID conversion kit is cheap, I can tell you from experience that it's not. The kit that I have in a set of Rally 4000's cost me $50 (installed myself) - I could have purchased the same kit and had it installed for $150 from a local auto electrical business. Hell, for just over $200 I've got a H4 hi/lo beam conversion kit, which is also installed (by me) in the Disco's headlights (got them of eBay).
As for "who told me that" - mate it's common knowledge.
If you just go out and buy a cheap Chinese HID conversion kit on eBay (in most cases will be H1), this will not work in Lightforce lights unless you can buy / find / make an adapter / spacer to locate the bulb correctly in the light, and the chances of positioning the globe correctly in relation to the reflector by this method are not good. Every report that I have read from people who have tried this states that they have been disappointed with the result.![]()

HID conversion kits, there appear to be quite a few on the market and yes the Lightforce will need a special kit to adapt the globe mount, but my gut feeling has always been you get what you pay for. I'm sure Lightforce is charging a bit more for their product, but to buy something produced by or for an Aussie company gives me some feeling of confidence. Over the past week I've had quite a few emails to and fro with Lightforce regarding the issue and they have spent some time discussing with others and me this problem and have offered their advice, which has also been suggested by yourselves. Also they have offered to send another pair of globes or for me to send them the lights for them to check. (Remember I bought these 2nd hand, which they are aware of), I would be very surprised to get this sort of service from a Chinese supplier. So from here, will pull lights apart, try new globes and then upgrade to Lightforce HID if need be. Hopefully there will be a bright end to this drama. Obviously interested to hear others experience with HID kits are they worth the extra expense?
Not ten minutes after taking that pic, customer just bought a truck then wanted to spend some more fitting it out.
Sorted him out with 2 pair of RMDL170's, 2 XGT's, all 4 of the HID 5000k kits I had left for the 170's, all of his choice.
Think there's something in that for all of us.....
I wouldn't buy eBay stuff anyway.... but that's another story....
