I thought it was "done deal" he was spending quarantine in ?Thailand and then home?
I reckon that info was about March or April.
Hi been watching this for a while now, I hope the relevant people get it fixed quickly! It concearns one of our military dogs who has been trained to sniff out explosives who along with her handler went through the same action that resulted in trooper Mark Donaldson getting a VC.
As a result of this action Sabi and her handler became separated during a fire fight, Sabi went missing for 10 months but was found by an American Officer who recognised her and returned to the Australians.
It has been suggested that due to Bu** Shi* red tape and quarrentine regulations that the only way Sabi is coming home is in a box?????????
Her handler wants her back so that she can retire with him and his family and I think that is only right, How could we live with the needless death of a loyal dog who has made a major contribution to our armed forces and has been accredited with saving lives.
I must apoligise, no links but if you Google Australian War dogs or just Sabi you will find plenty of material.

Hope your right but I was listening to the ABC a few days ago and there was stii a lot of doubt as to the outcome
Andrew
I wasn't aware that the Australian quarantine regulations were regarded as Bull**** red tape? I thought they were regarded as the best in the world?
What is your source for the idea that the dog will only come back to Australia "in a box"? The wikipedia page for Sabi says "The Courier-Mail reported that under AQIS rules, dogs would not normally be allowed entry to Australia directly from Afghanistan, but would rather have to spend six months in an intermediate approved country."
The source was ABC radio, and articles on the net, I wasnt for a second critisising the quarrentine laws as such, I agree with them 100% But in this case I am sure some of the red tape can be overcome so the dog can come home alive and as soon as possible, We all know how much the Government and public service are totally inflexable, Hopefully your information is a bit more up to date than mine, I will go and look. Thanks Andrew
Sorry Andrew - I've been engaged in a post-war (I hate myself for being drawn into it) about Jessica Watson and my irritation spilled over into my post about Sabi. I agree, the red tape should be able to be sorted out and I've been following the story with interest too. My understanding is that Sabi needs to go into a quarantine facility in a 3rd country for the normal period before coming into Aus - seems fair enough.
Cheers,
Adam
Hi No probs, trouble with the net and the media it's a bit hard to define the facts sometimes as often they are not shown with a date. The ABC article I heard a few days back was on the Richard Stubbs afternoon program (Melbourne).
He was interviewing a retired Luit colonel or simular that was expressing concearn for the Sabi's welfare and had something to do with returned service personell . He refered the listeners to the War dogs website from there I gathered some of my info.
I would hate to see this end badly for the dog, hope there is nothing but good news from here on. I agree with the regulations would hate to see rabies etc. in Aus.
