With over 6,000 active members...if they all chipped in $1 per month per annum....that's a fair bit of dosh there. Most people would have $12 sitting in the coin tray in their car...

How about all this dedicated to AULRO:

    8x 2.66ghz processors / 16 total cores with hyperthreading
    16GB DDR3 ECC-Registered Memory
    4x73GB 15,000 RPM Drives
    RAID-10
    2,000 GB Bandwidth
    100 Mps Port
    cPanel/WHM
    LITESPEED WEB SERVER
    CentOS
R1 Hourly Backups of all files with FREE matching RAID storage
Complete optimization to run vBulletin exclusively.

$1500US a year. I'll be honest I know little about running a forum, just questioning why a relative small site such as AULRO costs so much in dedicated hardware, but it's your site so don't feel obliged to answer.

I've given a 150 dollars or so to this site and likely will again if the quality of information continues at it's usual high standard. I understand and appreciate it takes a lot of effort to keep the lights on. TBO I think LRA should be approached for their support, they certainly benefit when it comes to pre sales advice and after sales support.

I've put together x2 aulro gatherings which I got 4wdtv to attend so I can get aulro some exposed air time to other potential lr owners. Just wondering or would be good to know how the tv exposure went with bringing in new members. Was there any rise in joining new members while the show was on? If good I can talk to Simon and work something out to get some more exposure for the site.

I have been meaning to subscribe for sometime and this thread has reminded me to do so. Sorry I haven't got around to doing it sooner Dave.

Why subscribe? because I know I have saved a fortune since becoming a Land Rover owner because of information I found on this website. Not only that I have had some excellent times and met some really good like minded people through this website and that has to worth at least the small amount of money it costs for a subscription.

So I'm more then happy to contribute towards paying for some bandwidth I hope other members also see the value as well in supporting this website.

    cheers,
    Terry

It was not my intention to create a division between the members that contribute and the ones that not and I do not thinkit is not within the "spirit"of our members and admin.

There are many people up there that are going trough some difficulties and will be unfair to point them with the finger just because a few dollars.

We have to trust turst those who are in a better economic situation are going to suscribe within the next couple of weeks.

I know that the others will follow as sonn as they can afford it

Keep the momentum going and do not let this thread died

i understand the sentiment but aulro is a bit of oddball compared to most forum based sites due to the amount of data it puts out for the size of the userbase.

aulro uses quite a few other things in the background to manage the data it serves up thru the front end. vbulletin is just the front end, one wonders how would it cope with mysql+sudohin, sendmail or postfix, pop and a few of the things needed to do the things it does.

other little things like managed servers mostly not allowing ssh access etc etc complicate it as well.

i have tried many of the different tiers of manged hosting solutions and nothing coped to my liking so i went down the track of having my own servers in rackspace in brisbane so i can get there is something goes caput etc etc etc

the package has proved to be very reliable till now but is suffering under the current loads

i have had several other professionals look at the aulro setup to see if they can get it to run more efficiently / quicker etc and it is about as good as it can get on what it is running on taking on board all they suggested...

next stage upgrade is already under way and about to be setup in the rack in brisvegas in the next few weeks..

I was moderator in a photography forum for long time and the only what I can say is that a dedicated moderator/admin dedicate a lot of his/her time to supervise and make sure that all is running smooth.

His/her time was free in that forum without any conditions attached. There never was intention to collect money from the members to pay for their time, but the members never expected that the moderators or the admin team have to be out of pocket for the benefilt of all the membership.

AULRO it is huge and for sure need more time dedicate for the running of it, so it will be fair if we the members pay for the running cost of it and be grateful for the volunatry work that the moderators.admin do for the site.

    Just my thought
