RTA - Melbourne do they check!

Just was wondering if anyone has taken there landie to vic roads recently? Do they check the defects thats are on the rwc or do they just check your engine and Vin number? hoping to book it in next week sometime for my300tdi disco and running very low on funds i dont think i can fix it all. main problems where passenger window (Motor working) up no up and down, hand brake needs tightening and a battery clamp which is easy. Ill have to take it back to the spanner on monday for the second test when its all fixed but i just wanted to know what they do when they do a inspection.

I registered my County a few months ago & they just looked at the Vin & chassis number. They still rely on the RWC for other detail.
It was registered as 5 seater ( too exxy for seat belts ) & they told me if I had a sales brochure or letter from Land Rover saying it was factory 10 seat, I could alter the reg by bringing it in & they would alter the records. Very helpfull people at Burwood. I was impressed !!

i remembered a looonnggggg time ago when i got my VB commodore rego'd they just check the vin and engine number but i was under the impession especialy here in werribee/hoppers it really depends on the person you get that day. LoL down here in the west for some reason everytime i go in the rta they all look like they dont want to be there and they hate there job's so if you get someone who's had a ****ty day they might inspect.

I'm going for a full rego as mine was canceled so have to give them everything from proof of the engine build as it has a different engine number than the old engine, rwc, and proof of purchase which i all have anyways so it might depend on the rego situation and i'm also paying a inspection fee.

Just inspect the engine number and Vin number, that is all

Have them clean and legible and it'll be a quick look and done

Wouldn't stress, I've registered supercharged engines, without drama

    Same experience.
Took my Merc in with a RWC as dodgy as. They didn't look at the leaking brakes. They didn't look at the sloppy steering. They didn't look at the faulty speedo. All they looked at were the receipt (proof of ownership not applicable in your case), the engine no and chassis no.
I did give them all the info I thought they would need, was polite, answered any question and showed them where they could easily see the engine and chassis nos.
I have seen them check headlights, brake lights, indicators and smokey (or not) exhaust.
Be neat, clean and don't wear a hat.
When I was last there (with the Merc), there was a fellow there trying to register a very nice looking yellow LX Torana. He was wearing tracky daks, a cap, was arguing with the Vicroads rep and got nowhere. He eventually left without the car being registered.
The items you can't do for the roadworthy are between you and the issuer of the roadworthy. He may not issue the roadworthy without those items being addressed. You need that roadworthy for the registration.
The inspection fee is a standard fee. It doesn't mean they'll put it over a pit or anything that involved.
    Good luck.

They only check the numbers but if they see something thats not right they will say something
And if you have a RWC and its not RW then they can screw the person that wrote it out

    and they will

I've never had a problem, I've probably registered 25 cars, in 8 years

and lots of them had things "not right"
