So I called Sterling Resort Management board and got a different story.

Gate is currently still open and at the moment is expected to be closed next tuesday... Do they want to make this any harder/confusing to just drive through a gate.

In any event they gave me the ski patrol mobile of the person closing the gate so will call on friday and suss it out and make a decision based on that.

If you want it, pm and I will give it to you (not sure if i should be posting it up on the forum?).

ps. as others have said you will more than likely be stung $35 per vehicle... but not definatively... :-)

Another way around could be carters rd (near sawmill settlement) then no.3 rd, but that's a long way around if you're headed to Bindaree. Sheepyard, Brocks is shorter. Another option is from Jamieson, Mt Sunday and Low Saddle. That's also a long way, but track was in good condition last time I was up that way.

But with the snow, and more expected in coming days, anything could be closed at short notice.

    Maybe a heli-rover is what's needed.

If you want info ask a local......

Mt Stirling is mananged bt the Resort Management Board (Another Govt Authority)

The back way to Spec Rd would of been turn left at Carters Rd up to No3 Rd to Circuit Rd.

I work at the BP Roadhouse at Mansfield, call in when driving thru

    Hi Gav

The road was open and the people at the bottom gate were great , no charge for Mt Srtirling.

Have look in my ' Did they muck up post though' The track where it drops off , about about 2kms out was pretty icy!

    PS

I am part of a property co-op up the Dry Creek road .

Sorry Gav , meant to ask another question.

Buller resort is owned/leased , run and managed by the Grollo Group?

Stirling is leased/operated by the Grollo Group for the winter months?

The money collected at the bottom gate goes where?

I could be way off ther mark so let me know

    Pete

Grollo built many buildings and most of the chairlifts
All land on the mountain is leased from RMB, even if you purchase a house on Buller you only own the house, not the land

Stirling is leased/operated by the Grollo Group for the winter months?

Stirling is mananged by RMB,, the Victorian National Parks Assoc want it to be encompassed into the Alpine Nat Pk and is lobbying hard for it to happen.
Some investors wanted to build a 5* resort on Stirling but were knocked back.

I hope the above helps clear many myths

Grollo has his house down between Sawmill Settlement and Mirimbah on the Buller Rd
