Was camping with friends recently and they were trying out a Webasto diesel cook top in a camper van, the idea being a single fuel source. It worked very well and as a Chef he was very happy with the heat etc that the unit put out. Just looked like an electric ceramic top. He made a nice brekky with it anyway.

I found some discussion on this forum site about diesel powered stoves and their comments about them working at heights.

Love the idea but I wonder why these diesel units are not more widespread. Most larger boats and almost all yachts have diesel motors and gas is so dangerous (hence the spirit burners)

I imagine they are not popular because of the problem starting such a burner will always be more involved than a gas stove. (Notice the one featured also needs a 12V supply)

I have been watching those auctions for a while.

I remember those...... The good old Stove, gasoline, anti-personel

A couple of the MSR stoves will run on just about anything flammable, including diesel. They are pretty entertaining to light as you have to release a small amount of fuel which is burnt to preheat and vaporise fuel flowing through a metal tube.

I've got a 20 year old version of the XGK stove which is far less bling than the current design, and it's fantastic.

Thank you for posting up the link to the catalogue - it was a very interesting read. Do you have one or have you been toying with the idea of getting one?

Baldrick my Series 3 Diesel came with a home-made crane on crane off camper on its tray. I have a long term plan to convert it to fit on to an 8 x 5 foot trailer so this diesel stove is food for thought. Maybe fuel for thought :0)

Which allowed me to install my Optimus Nova+ multifuel into a set of Trangia windshields.

The burner unbolts from the tripod frame (left)...

There's a fibrous wick under the burner which allows you to prime the vaporiser using the fuel in the tank - ie, negating the need for methylated spirits. Whilst it works well, it can be a little sooty on kero/diesel.

Much cleaner to use metho and the TW Sands bottle fits neatly through the hole in the side and reaches all the way into the priming cup. The cup holds a fair bit too which helps to start cold diesel in one go.

Have you any idea whether that would work with the MSR stoves. I have a Whisperlite which runs on shellite. Certainly looks the goods.
