Alko Electric Trailer brakes
Can anyone tell me how to remove the drums so that I can inspect my trailer brakes?
Just getting ready to tow it to Queensland etc so thought I'd have a look see to make sure everything is kosher in there.
Thanks

ALKO Brake drums are integral with the hub.
You take the drum off by removing the wheel bearings.
Would be a good time to check the and re-grease the wheel bearings while they're off.
BTW: I'm not sure which religion the brakes are, but have no idea how you tell Kosher brake shoes from Halal ones!

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Hi recently bought a van and the brakes, I was told had just been done, they were stuffed! and the origional ones fitted to the van in the early 80's. Had to replace the whole lot.
Here is a pic of the new brakes so you can see what it's meant to look like if all is well.
To remove hub:
Wheel off
Grease cap off
Split pin out
Undo nut
Chock wheels
Handbrake off
Drum should slide off axle.
Clean and inspect/replace bearings
Replace inner axle seal
Reassemble
New Split pin
Hope this is helpful If you need bits I can reccomend a place not too far from Warrenwood.

If you are going to put new shoes on then consider having the drums machined, I have this as my next job before a trip later this year. The local mob here are quoting me $25 per drum and about 20 minutes each. Also leave the cone part of the inner bearing in the drum as this is what their machine uses to locate the drum center.
