    Trans Australian Safari????

I brought home my '54 86" Series 1 today, which is being used for parts to resurect my other series 1's. On the left hand guard is a stuck on transer that has been over painted several times. In large letter is "TRANS AUSTRALIAN SAFARI".

I have googled this and come up empty so far. Does anybody remember an early expedition, tour operator and publicity event. the vehicle is way too far gone, but it would be good to know of any history for it.

    Hi CC,

The only thing that keeps popping into my head is the leyland brothers trip from east to west, Cape Byron to Steep point I think it was. But, series 1's IIRC were even too old for them weren't they?

You're thinking of Northen Safari, with Kieth Adams and his wife and sister (and their dog) who drove from Perth to the gulf of Carpentaria and back in a a diesel 2WD Buick from the 40's. All three are still alive and living in Perth. They filmed the movie in the 50s, re-released it again in the 70's with new footage and released it on DVD a couple of years ago.
