I bet most Landy owners wouldnt agree not only have their Landys got a soul, most would have many. In fact it would be quite safe to say most Landies have multiple personalties.

Some of the personalities the owners even like some days.

Not a bad troll though Subasurf.

Sorry mate, but I don't see what age has to do with appreciation of a vehicle.
Let me put it this way, I couldn't care less if I saw a Defender being written off, burnt, crushed etc. Well, no more than seeing a Cruiser. Defenders are everywhere and I constantly hear complaints about reliability etc.

Series landrovers on the other hand....they ooze character and adventure. Land Rover use to be about offroading, adventure and exploration. Not so much anymore. Sure, they made the smart financial decision, I can't hold that against them. But I don't have to like it and I don't have to pretend to either.

Don't get me wrong though, if I was to ever get a modern Land Rover it would certainly be a defender. I just think they started to lose their way. Bring back the sliding windows!!!

Oh okay. So it's mandatory for a Land Rover owner/enthusiast to like everything Land Rover makes...tell me, how many Landy enthusiasts can genuinely say that the Freelander or a modern Range Rover has soul?

Some LR owners are as bad as Toyota and Nissan owners. Get all offended if someone doesn't bow down and praise everything their manufacturer of choice has made.

I really can't get onto this whole "soul" concept. It seems to have become a "last-desperate-gasp" sort of argument put forward as a positive that can magically transcend all negatives wrt to any given LR. Perhaps it is the word "soul" I find objectionable, by definition the immaterial part of a human, something which I do not believe in anyway, in the same way I don't believe that the heart has any amorous capacity or that the Earth was created by some guy less than 10,000 years ago.

At the end of the day, they are cars, machines. Their apparent individual nature is defined by its inherent attributes, that is to say, character. All the cars I have owned have had character, it's not an exclusive LR only feature.

I think a lot of LR owners needs to stop defending (excuse pun) their choices and just come out and say "I own a LR because I like them". It just makes so much more sense than "I would own a Nissan, but, errr, it doesn't have character" which almost makes character sound like a euphemism for unreliability. My cousin was asking me why I wanted to buy a Land Cruiser, and I explained it had nothing to do with the fact I was unhappy with my Disco. I know my LRs are perfectly good, and I feel no need to explain to anybody why I own them.

The age comment has absolutely nothing to do with appreciation of vehicles.

It is just about how much time is "a long time". The same comment would have applied if you had said there have been no decent TV comedies made for "a long time".

It's about time, not TV or vehicles.

BTW What do you assume this emoticon means?

    Subasurf,

you still want coil springs and sliding windows? Have a look at the Defender Hard Top that has been for sale in SA for months and months now. It is from what I can find the cheapest new Landy for sale out there.

But it isn't selling even though it is so cheap.

Sorry it doesn't have sliding windows in the doors but maybe you can retro fit them. I'm sure it has lots of Landy soul though. I just hope it comes with ear muffs as well so you don't go deaf while driving it home.

I agree not all change is good, personally I thought the world got out of shape and to far infront of it self when they invented the electric light. I always liked the idea of candles, even though I wasn't around when that was the only choice you had.

I'm not saying every thing in Land Rover world is perfect or should be loved by all, I am saying you are trolling and that is your choice.

    Have a nice day.

    cheers,
    Terry
