I should have stayed in bed. It was not good but probably a true reflection of our position on the world soccer ladder.

Germany is a good team. The Canadian F1 race was nicer to watch.
Webber did well but could not match Hamilton.

Yep - the Canadian GP was worth staying up and watching. It was a good race and Hamilton deserved the win.

Went to bed after that - I find soccer boring, regardless of who's playing. And every time I have flicked to SBS to see what's going on, I have to turn the volume down. That constant drone of all those horns blaring non stop reminds me way too much of blowflies on a carcass.

I liked George Negus's description of Australia in the international football arena. He likened us in economic terms to a developing third world country in it's infancy tying to compete with the economic giants.

Our effort against Germany was woeful and I dont hold out much hope for us progressing beyond the first round

Shoots, applying that metaphor we are still bartering blankets, axes, rum and tobacco over here in NZ...

It doesn't stand up to scrutiny really (more likely old legs vs young legs). Latest FIFA rankings show Germany 6th and Australia 20th. Hardly third world.

On that same list NZ is 78th and Slovakia are 34th... bring on Slovakia tonight.

We did a dismal effort.
Pity we were up against one the worlds best in round 1.

The pressure we are under now is immense.
That game was as if we never actually in with a chance.

The rest of the world just play such a skilled game, our effort shows we have a long way to go.
