Some of the stats make for good reading. Some interesting penalty calls.
Well done to you. I'll confess that when I started watching I was reluctantly backing Italy but who can support a team that dives so much. It was ridiculous. NZ played way more honestly and by the end I was sharing your stress in those 4 minutes of extra time.

Send an email to channel nine and others telling them you won't watch games if the bloody vuvuzelas can be heard. I am getting used to them but it would be enough to turn me off watching sport. It needs to be nipped in the bud before the public get attached to them. I cannot imagine how awful it would be being at a game with them.

If only the OLIMPICS could be OVER so Quickly, when the PAINFULL 4 year cycle seems to come round again....
Easy answer, dont watch it. I am sure there is stuff you like others detest. I am not fanatical but like my soccer, some of the olympics. Whats wrong with supporting your sports teams when they play every 4 years.

Wow, South Africa dealt to France, 2-1. France does not progress to the next round. A shame that SA doesn't either.

I was still at work when they played.
    Was quite nail biting.
We had to win with five goal difference to go to the next round.
It seemed impossible but when France developed internal problem before the match it was quite possible.
The Uruguay Mexico game was on the same time.
RSA had two goals and Uruguay one. Suddenly everybody was all ears.
    Only two goals required.
But in the end it was not to be.
Tied for second place on points and only loosing on goal difference.

The same could happen with Australia, if they win it's a tie in second place and only goal difference counts.
New Zealand is already tied for second and looks good.
Nail biting stuff especially if one has to work while listening to a radio too.

It is football for billons of people and will be called football for ever.
One day the british will come out of the cave and will call it football as well
If you are going to take cheap shots at people from behind your computer at least get your facts straight and don't talk rot. Hardly anybody in Britain calls it "soccer" but football - the term which they gave to the game ie: Association Football. It was the upper classes who play rugby that gave it the name "soccer" to distinguish it from egg-chasing. You need to sort your head out mate - if you have a grievance with the British, at least come out with it and don't make a fool of yourself under some other guise.

Refereeing has been shocking - but claims that they favour the "big" teams are way off. Did anyone see Kaka's sending off for Brazil? Although Italy's penalty vs NZ was soft, to say the least, not many people have voiced their objections about New Zealand's goal, which was offside. Still, I'm glad it went unnoticed. Refereeing has been terrible for the last few years and seems to be getting worse. Sometimes it comes as a result of instructions from FIFA for refs to stick rigidly to their edicts ie: Kewell being sent off. It probably was a penalty because it hit enough of his arm to stop it going in but the pen was punishment enough. The refs are having their own discretionary powers taken away from them by the idiots who run the game. Have a look at this for Kaka's 2nd yellow card:

the Ivory Coast player should be sent home for that piece of work

The soccoroos first half was indifferent,,
    no forward movement at all,,
ten minutes into the second half, two replacements and WOW, a totally different mindset.
I think Pym deserves another run,,

There is already talk in the NZ media that Ricki Herbert will be coaching the Socceroos next... he is the lowest paid coach over there at NZD50,000 per season to coach the All Whites. He apparently gets NZD200,000 to coach the Phoenix in the A-League. If he does move I hope he does stay with Australasia...
