    Here's a curious conundrum for ya . . .

So I have the County. Which is great (and off the road for repairs again *grumble grumble*).

And some of you know or dont know about Nev. Nev is a 85 Diahatsu Rocky. Little, yellow, tough as nails, sneak by everything, learn to 4wd in, rough, handy, SLOW. We've had Nev for quite some time now, and he's taken quite the beating. Been turned into a water pump twice, and aside from bent pushrods (which rattle like all hell); it still runs, drives and goes offroading quite regularly. But he's at that point. He's not worth anything anymore. There's not a straight panel left, the rust is coming back in the roof sills; no one in their right mind would buy it with an engine that sounds like it does (and runs like it does coz the valve timing on at least two of four cylinders is so chopped up I'm pretty sure they try to run backwards). Oh, and the steering column bearing has collapsed, so there's about 2 inches back and fourth play that makes it seem like you're 'machine gunning' down the road.

He's been a workhorse, a playhorse, rolled into tree's, drowned on numerous occassions...and to be honest with you guys is tougher than my County. Yes, scream at me all you like but the worst I've ever done to actually -stop- me driving the Rocky was ripping the exhaust off while trying to drive over a tree that had fallen over a track. Anyone who's seen the car in action, knows exactly what I'm talking about. I'm not sure even a tin of petrol and a match would kill it.

But the time has come. Do I bite it, spend the (up to) $3k on a car that has a resell value of 0...or do I buy a Pajero? Dont say buy another landrover. I'm not that much of a sucker for punishment. And as the story has it there is a rather cheap and reasonably conditioned Pajero for sale within my family. The Paj is an NH 2.5L TD. So no more powerful (ha ha) . . . but more room, good for towing the work trailer. Probably not going to be used offroad.

    Decisions decisions . . .?

My experiences with all the Mitsubishis I've seen through my family Id never buy another. I'd buy Nissan or Toyota instead, but only if I couldn't find a cheap Disco first. They are SOOOO cheap these days for what they are and what they can do. Endless supply of parts too.
