Is this worth the killing ????

US discovers stunning mineral wealth in Afghanistan - Yahoo! News UK
Is this what it's been all about ???
No oil to exploit here chaps, but whilst we are here anyway might as well have a look and see if there is anything worth nicking.....behold America the new empire.
I was speaking to a kurd a few months back he intimated that the invasion of Iraq and toppling (and consquental hanging thereof) Stan Sadaam was about getting security for Kurdistan from the turks and from the Iraqi's as they have some oil up there if any of this is true it's a totally disgusting episode and a dishonour of the memory of the servicemen that have copped it

I am cynical, but I have said all along the US interest in the Middle East full stop is about oil and mineral exploration, nothing else. The shameful thing is so many have had to die. There has been a direct influence on this since the 70s regarding Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria etc etc Also parts of Africa. Why is it that when other countries have civil unrest and terrorism the US have not stepped in. Oh thats right they were resource poor nations and it would have been purely humanitarian. We cant just have a mandate to save lives or reduce famine as our primary concern can we.

I believe you to be correct on that score Craig, when you have big old losers like Bob Geldof seeing famine as an issue whilst the bankers and governments (probably with hands in each others pockets) don't think that humanity is worth a toss, greedy bastards get richer off of the back of the poor it's been like it for thousands of years I am sure since the first traders left the middle east with stuff to flog and people went "hello I can buy a bit of that pretty stuff of him, but if I invade and pilage I can have it all" !!
Then you have the other things that have occured on face value you say a tradegy of terrorism ...does this terror come straight from the middle east or is it home grown in western countries with a population of uneducated disposessed...interesting times we live in.

The company that I am a senior manager for (actually just resigned from), is into aerial exploration. We have tendered for a major survey in Afganistan to search for oil. The client is the US Government. That says it all really.

Is this worth the killing ????

Imagine a theory where a government wants something that someone else has and tries to take it by force.........

Hmmm how many different civilisations have invaded Britian? France? Poland?
How many invaded Africa? Or Korea or Vietnam..... etc etc etc

    No-one does anything for nothing...

As for the 'leave the USA to do it themselves' I doubt that thought will offer any comfort when you consider the penalties of trade etc

Whats the problem?? Give the afghans a shovel instead of an AK47.

I'd rather see them making money out of mining then opium.

Or maybe, trying to find some way that Afghanistan could support itself and base its economy on, the US is conducting all these surveys etc...to basically get a head start for the locals???

Possibly, just maybe, not everyone who is involved in this thing is part of some huge conspiracy, possibly, just a wee bit, that there are people out there who think they are helping build the afghan nation up so it can survive???

sorry but sometimes I think a little too much james bond movie plot is brought into the weigh up??

My brother is currently over there and I will be damned if I believe the Australian forces are there as part of that kind of crap conspiracy stuff!

    My 5c....(was 2c but I rounded up!)

    cheers
