Oh well now swearing in public can attract a fine of $100 in the tropical state of Qld if the state Gov impose the on-the-spot notices for public nuisance offences.
I do not like swearing but I am worried about start giving to mech control to the "Dogooders"
What would be next?
How they are going to enforce the law?
Perhaps using the AULRO moderators?

G'day Folks
Oddly enough these laws were around and enforced in the 50'sand 60's in Qld, and particularly in the "Joh" era, they also had a quant police squad up here known as the "Bodgie Squad" similar to NSW's 21st divisionliving in Qld in those years was interesting including the drinking age of 21, many a time I and friends have driven back from Tweed Heads (drinking age in NSW=18) totally blind, in vehicles with 6volt electrics and mechanical brakes (cable/rod)

It was illegal to swear,be drunk and or disorderly in public, and it still is illegal to drink alcohol in a public place, this is used regularly near hotels after closing time
cheers
in normal circumstances public nuisance offences can only be dealt with by the Courts, except where cash bail is undertaken, and rarely do public nuisance offenders hit the watchhouse these days....but thats another debarcle
so I think on the spot fines is a step forward. Frees up Police to carry out other duties instead of being tied up processing idiots in watchhouses, keeps watchhouses for serious offenders not to mention freeing the Courts up.
bring it on I reckon, I hate walking down the street with my 5 year old daughter and hearing those potty mouths screeching the f word every second word they utter from their gobs.
theres a time and a place for swearing, I have been known to let them fly myself, but never in a public place at the top of my lungs for all to hear
just my 2c worth
As much as I like the idea of this, it smacks a little of tightening the noose on democracy...

I think you will find that there is no change to the actual offence its just that now on the spot fines can be issued instead of pinching the offender and lodging them in a watchouse, preparing a court brief, hunting them down to turn up to court etc. etc. It has always been illegal to swear in public its nothing new. Obviously there are levels of discretion involved but if you are being an arse you deserve it.
Personally i would rather cop an on the spot fine than be locked up for the night with my new best friend bubba and still end up with the fine from the magistrate.
