Wasnt that long ago one of my drivers broke an axle on one of my Kenworths. The axles the size of your fore arm.

When I asked how it happened he said I dont know, I was pulling back onto the road off the gravel (full loaded 45.5T up hill), the inside wheels were on the road & outside on the gravel. He gave it to much throttle in low low, spun the wheels in the gravel & when they hit the asphalt snap o.

It was a fair old effort to bust an axle that big 46000lb eatons.

Did it shatter into lots of small pieces??? I had an axle do that in the IIA. The 10 spliners often break strangely.

LOL CMV/Bayswater trucks might still have it a there work shop as it isnt common for an axle on one of these to let go. I have to go down there tomorrow so I will see if I can get a pic if its still there.

I have the invoice to prove it LOL

    Cheers Gavin

No it only broke into about 4 big bits & 3 small. It let go about 5'' from the splines. I had it towed down the Mountain to CMV/Bayswater trucks & it was back on the road in 2hrs.

Have broken an Eaton as well. It broke in a spiral shape. Still here in the scrap pile.
Many Series 111 fronts and two series 1 short rears as well.

    Do smashed diffs count?

umm..... never seen any spectacular breakages, but i've seen stripped splines and an axle with 3/4 of a complete rotation of twist from one end to the other......
