Unfortunately most do not know what their own term "Off road" means.
One company told me gazetted roads - so I said the eastern beach of Fraser would be OK - Oh no that is beach - not covered - but it is gazetted - oh was their response.

So when driving on a dirt track into a friends house on their property would not be covered as it is not gazetted - response oh yes that is is OK.

So you need to challenge the company with scenarios to ensure they know what is being offerred as they often do not know their own policies and are more interested in just signing you up.

Get it in writing.

I'd go to a 4WD Insurance broker. They will insure you for anywhere as long as the vehicle is roadworthy.

I use DGA Insurance, and there is also TCIS.

I'm with Justcar (or maybe Budget Direct... cant remember!), they said it didn't matter where I was, provided I was legally allowed to be there. Middle of a paddock or up the beach didn't matter.

I'm with Allianz. The car is insured anywhere on a gazetted road (which includes beaches) and defined tracks. It is not ensured for comps of any kind.

I had them clarify this in writing to me at the time of insuring the car.

BUT I have not had a claim yet so its not tested.

I'm with Suncorp. Rolled my Deefer (thus its name) they fixed it. Mostly.
