    OFF TO THE SIMPSON

    Well,

In about 30 hour time my wife and I and couple of mates and their wives are head from the NSW Central Coast to the Simpson Desert.

We have Spent the last 12 months preparing vehicles, making plans and spending money.

Got the D'fer pretty much where I want it and thats lucky because there is no time left to do any thing else.

We are heading for Broken Hill, then on to Tibooburra - Cameron Corner - Innamincka - Birdsville.

Then across the Simpson to Dalhousie.

    Can't wait.

Would love to do Tassie, the wife is dead keen to checkout the apple isle.

There is just so much of this country to see and so little time given to annual leave.

Still, one year at a time.

Drover I hate to bear bad news but innaminka is out mate, floodwaters are still a problem in the area. I dont think you can track anywhere northwest of tibooburra. you might do better from adelaide or the flinders ranges north up the borefield rd to birdsville track. via coober pedy. best to do a real serious check yourself, but I had recent info from an oil exploration company trying to get to their rigs. if youve had very recent advice telling you tracks are clear then ignore mine. best of luck theres some driving where you want to go.

Will be an awesome trip. So far its my favourite part of oz.

Is it your first time across the simpson?

Hope the roads are open or you can find alternative routes.

Lots of photos on your return please! Cheers

50 Landies on the Outback Heritage Drive successfully completed a drive through Innamincka area a few weeks ago - no problems.

AFAIK, the only problem with Simpson crossing ATM is Eyre Ck - still flooded at QAA line but crossable via a 75km detour north to Dickerie Crossing. So allow for an extra 150km in your fuel and travel time considerations. Check the Mt Dare Hotel website for track conditions.

I spoke to the Tourist Centre at Birdsville last week and asked about the flood water situation.

I told her of our planned route and she said that there was only a couple of roads closed and they expected them to open within a week.

I hope she is right, I guess we will see soon enough.

Lucky bugger's, I left 3 sleepers almost at the end (Eastern side) of French Line in 1994, no-one has found them as yet, I left a note in a plastic container with contact details, have fun cheers Dennis
