Some one on here was organising a land rover Jamboree last year, it atracted heaps of interest but he didn't end up going through with it for some reason, so if you decide to organise something similar i think there will be plenty of interest!!

Pick your charity and then see if you can get an insurance company as your major sponser, you then have half the battle over if its like organising fishing events

    Hi Dan
Only been involved in fishing events, stuff as simple as take a kid fishing turns out not to be so simple. Insurance in the form of public liability seemed to be the major head ache most of the time. Research your date well so as not to clash with simular events, advertise well, get a good commitee together but not to big (the bigger the commitee the more differing the opinions, too small and the work load is to great). Have a few brainstorming sesion on the way through with a whiteboard to show ideas and flow charts on where you are at in meeting deadlines. Realisticly 12 months after commitee form would be a good timeframe IMHO
    cheers

Having run Ateco for a number of years I have a bit of an insite into this. I am assuming it is a similiar type of event that you are thinking of organising rather than a static show of vehicles.

Location is number one. Where are you planning on running the event. Public or Private land? How far do people have to travel to watch the event. How far do competitors have to travel between stages.

Your money is made from spectator entry fees so what ever you do needs accessable and needs to be advertised for spectators. A different marketing strategy is required for competitors.

Once the location is found you then need to obtain council approval. This will often require a meeting with council so that you can be aware of the specific regulations that will apply. Will food and alcohol be available on site? You need permits. Are you feeding competitors or is eveyone self sufficient? Do you have enough toilets. Where will they be placed on the property? How are you going to deal with rubbish? How are you going to deal with traffic and what impact will this have on local residents. A marketing strategy for council and land owners of how your event will bring business to the local community works well at satisfying concerns of disruption to the quiet enjoyment of the locals.

Medics or first aid officers need to be present.

You have to decide on the rules on how you want to run the event and decide on how classes are to be determined. Utilising the rule set created by the ccda allows you to gain access to their insurances as well, but then you are locked into thei view of vehicle classes.

You need people to help run the event. Front gate, car parking, marshalls, toilets, rubbish, security. Are your security people trained? Are your marshalls trained or how are you going to train them?

That's about it for now. Good luck

Probably not much help but I have seen small informal demolition derby's grow from a few races amongst mates to something folk prepare for months for and travel to from great distances. Event grew organically if you like to become quite an event. No longer exists nowadays under the OSH regs but it started low and slow and grew to be quite the event with experience gained along the way. maybe something intraclub growing to interclub challenges etc

Hmmm, wonder what a 4WD demo derby would be like, hills and gulleys, mud and dust, Nissan vs Toyota vs LR vs ...

if its any help, My power boat section at Ocean Reef Sea sports club (Im the rear commodore) runs a thing called boating for Kidz

Its where us power boaters take disadvantaged and disabled kids out on the water for a boat trip up the river for a few hours, come back and then have a suasage sizzle, fizzy pop and cakes. Its magical..

Anyway.. to the point. Ansvar insures us and have accepted the risk (no mean feat especially as its kids, power boats, and water!) you will have to do quite a bit of ground work im sure.. but they were the only guys that touched us.. as its a charitable thing... im sure they would be able to help.

    Thanks

    Steve

alright i want to do this

    my thoughts for the event

    - make it a battle of the brands
    - have the clubs decide who will compete based on a vote or set up a site for it
    - have it over 4 days 1 day rock crawling day 2 outback challenge style day 3 mud and guts fast stuff day 4 drags gynkanas etc

want to know your thoughts and what you like to watch as an event or what you think should be in an event

    cheers guys
