They'd need someone to shoot at them first. Vic pretty good at shooting first and I think their training works cause they dont miss often![]()
Tonight's news reported the millions are being spent to provide the Vic police officers with these new light weight bullet and stab proof vests.
That's great news for the officer's protection. But what are they being protected from, I can't see a photo copier or type writer getting up and firing or stabbing them..... After all the other night on the news they were reporting that police are tied up with reports, writing and spending most of their time back at the station snowed under with paper work.
Might as well waste more money and arm them all with machine guns too. Protect them even more JUST in Case they are allowed out on the street.
Yes give them the tools to do their job, but also let them out to do it.
If not, then spend the money wisely on pencils , rubbers, stationary, because that seems to be what they need most.
You just can't police from behind a desk

I wouldn't ever question this. Every officer should have one of these and it is probably an example of the tax dollar being spent well in my book.
The people that keep us safe should have our full support.

Cant really see the need to walk round all day in Body Armour but why not hey
Only problem is now criminals will shoot at their heads
I would prefer they didn't get shot at full stop
If we are going to give them vest's why not a helmet at the ready
Its never a case of lets draw in the middle of the street like in the westerns
if they are going to need Body Armour in any circumstance a helmet would probably be a good idea
And if they NEED vests then they NEED helmets![]()
because it is much harder to shoot someone in the head than in the center mass area. As to the need, well it takes a knife wielding maniac two seconds to cross 25 meters and stab you, how fast can you draw a gun?
I have absolutely no problems with any police force being supplied protective armour vests. I know what it is like to have to wear a vest for prolonged periods and even with some of today's lightweight vests they are still a PITA to wear whilst doing administrative type work which I doubt many would wear if not "on the street".
My issue is why can't law abiding citizens such as myself be able to legally purchase such a vest also (for those of you who do not know it is now illegal to possess such protective clobber without jumping through endless hoops).
I will not for one minute accept the argument that this legislation prevents criminals from possessing such protective equipment. (Stringent gun controls have done nothing to prevent access to firearms for criminal purposes).
Anyone who really wants a gun to commit an offence can easily obtain one FACT!
It was fine for me to have such equipment when in the military but now on the street I am fair game to all. I have been assaulted several times in the last few years in my civilian employment including one armed assault and numerous situations where knives have been used, there are occasions/situations that warrant such protective equipment but our "nanny state" knows better.
If I were to acquire such a vest (which would not be hard) I would be the criminal.
I don't think he's missed the point entirely....they must have been on the street sometime to generate the paperwork in the first place.
I take your point though, more street time and less desk time is better for all concerned.
And good luck to them for getting the upgraded equip, I'm all in favour.
I'm hearing what you are saying, but I don't beleive that is the reality. Where I live they are always out of the office, walking the streets and patrolling the highway. My experiences with them, is that when something happens, there is a lot of paperwork that goes with it at times. If you think they're not allowed out, then the police at Orange NSW at least (although not VIC) haven't received that memo yet.
