The link in the first post was for a drug to help prevent secondary heart attacks - so it is sort of relevant.

There is no demonstrated advantage to the Cartia over the equivalent dose of non-coated aspirin. In many countries the standard dose of preventative aspirin is 75mg (or 1/4 of a tablet) so even cheaper. The ulcers come from the action of the aspirin IN THE BLOODSTREAM not in the stomach itself. It's not a slow-release coating, it's designed to prevent the aspirin being directly released in the stomach.

Latest research is questioning the benefit of aspirin, particularly in the otherwise healthy and also once you get more than a few months after your heart attack. The risk of stroke increases and the risk of heart attack (apart from immediately after the last one) doesn't come down very much. I guess that's why they are now advertising direct to the public.
