Hi,
I have fitted Dobinsons 45mm lift springs and Suspension Stuff shocks to my 1997 Discovery 300DTI, it was standard height before this.
Fitting them was quiet straight forward, used spring compressors and took about 6 hours (this included getting the old shocks off – the longest and hardest job).
The on road ride is great, does not roll much at all and it feels no difference to the standard height springs. Off road the articulation is great. Well pleased with Dobinsons springs.
Only problem SWMBO complains it is too high to get in with the 265/75 tyres!
Cheers,
Phil.
I got the springs/ shocks from Suspension Stuff. Phoned them up and told them what I was after, they then asked questions about what I do (on-road/ off-road – how much), what I have got fitted/ getting fitted and then recommended the spring rating/ shocks etc.
Recommend Suspension Stuff any day.
Cheers,
Phil.
Hiya. I have a 95 Discovery manual 300TDi, modded ARB bar, 9000lb winch, Dual Batteries. About 5 months ago, I installed the Dobinson lift with Suspension Stuff shocks, the HD 45 or 50 mm or whichever one it is. At first, the front springs werent rated to handle the weight at the front and as you can see from the first pic, was very nose down. But spoke to Shane at Suspension Stuff and he quickly sent me some heavier ones for the front. Not really a hard job, but by the end as you can imagine, I was over it having done the front twice in 4 days.
In one of the other posts it said around 6 hours, I think that is about right from what I did. At present the front still sits down slightly, as you can see in the second pic. But I am making up some aluminium perch spacers to rectify the height difference.
Handling, well.... I used to drive a pretty flash Prado, and that handled like, well a car. Even after the 2+ lift. I was assuming that the Disco would be the same.... But Discos are very special carsHaha, nah, it handles much better than stock and off road it flexs really well, Im impressed with her now. Saying that though, I do have alot of weight up the front, which I think has a bit to do with it.
I have changed the tyre size now also, have 245/75 on it now. 75s? You get my drift. Am going to change them to 235/85 on wolf rims in the next few months though.
Hope this has helped mate. End state, I'm happy with the setup.
im carrying a bit of weight in my rig....so ive gone for a slightly stiffer spring.....
i got them with a 2 inch lift........
it handles a lot less like a boat and more like my lamborghini does.....but the rear shock that came with the kit arent long enough.....
or firm enough and they are topping out.......
with the exception of the rear shocks.....i would recommend them.....
i got mine from shane at suspension stuff.....and he was very friendly and helpful.....
