    Smoke under load = Horsepower.
Just be aware chipping increases heat loading especially on long hills and when towing.
Its a wise move to fit a Pyrometer(exhaust gas temp gauge) to prevent engine damage.
I have a Nanocom and you will be surprised how much your water temp rises in the above conditions,YOUR DASH WONT TELL YOU THIS!!!!!(D2)

ive had the nanocom sitting on my dash.....and the coolant temp has only risen a few degrees......

but the exhaust temp gets up......you can actually smell the heat from inside the cabin.....i have no idea hot hot things are getting
without a pyrometer.........but you can definitely tell they are hot.....

    Hi Tony
I thought it was just my dodgy cooling system on my D2.
Until I did an instal for Aaron40 on his D2.The more HP we tuned into it the hotter it got on my test hills. His is set as good as you will get,he too can overboost on a cold day.
I will tell you mine is tuned to the max HP on the wastegate,it overboosts in cold conditions if you give it a full head of steam.
Mine has a pretty strong ECU upgrade.EGT and Intercooler to come, new radiator sitting in the shed

ill keep an eye on mine next time im on a long trip......everything is standard on mine except for the chipping......

    even running factory rubber......

i need to get a pyrometer.......but keep putting it off due to lack of funds.....and motivation to fit it........

and then.....if i do fit one.....whats the normal range and whats high......?
    i have no idea.......

    nat......what td5 have you got.....?
    fender or disco......and what year......?

if its a fender.....try unplugging the switch from the clutch master cylinder and see how that feels......

    Hi Natt
A Nanocom is a diagnostic tool many of us TD5 owners have,it can do many of the tasks the expensive dealer/specialist owned gear can do with the ECUs on TD5 Defender/Discoveries.It has a instrument display mode that shows actual boost, temp volts and RPM.
It ISNT an EGT or pyrometer.Search Thermogaurd on AULRO.Member Leo109 makes his own kit.
