The poor little bugger had never seen an asthma mask before but he had seen the TAC ad and was convinced Scott was about to die.

Never approved of the 'blood and gore' ads since. ****heads that make these ads have no idea of the harm they can cause.

But......Scott was alive !!!!!! and thankfully a big difference.

Over the last week I've handled 2 motor vehicle fatalities, one as on scene commander, and one as the duty officer (fire service). I'd be very happy if there weren't any more.

Different styles of ads target and impact different groups, so what doesn't work for Ron (do any) or yourself may work at getting the message to others.

Yeah, Scottys alive and well, 23 years old now. Have you noticed how the older your kids get the more they cost ?
Was a member of the local Brigade for over 20 years, Captain for five. Couldn't agree more.
As to the 'blood and gore' ads. Any idiot can make a disturbing and 'traumatising' ad and use this to promote a cause/behaviour. Do the advert makers consider the effect these ads may have on children, or do they use the old 'end justifies the means' argument and cop out ?
This thread started lauding a clever safety belt ad. No blood, no gore but hard hitting, clever and effective. Another example is the Workcover ads that showed 'the most important reasons for workplace safety' , mum and the kids when dad comes home. Again, no blood and gore, clever, hard hitting and effective. Much better than the young girl sticking her hand in the bread slicer type Workcover ad.
My view is that these "blood and gore" ads are made by lazy ad makers who couldn't be bothered to do better and the complete lack of professionalism and competence or even care this displays. If you are going to be an ad maker be a good one not a 'sensationalist' no talent one.

Not quite, it's the words "terrorise" and "trauma" I disagree with, I see it as "childish misinterpretation". Ace posted a good explanation of "road trauma" from his line of work, a term for which trauma is appropriate as it is much more far reaching (ie loss/tragedy affecting families, friends, communities, police, emergency services) than the trauma you describe.

I think that is the key point. A good friend of mine who develops ads for the TAC certainly isn't a "lazy ad maker[s] who couldn't be bothered to do better and the complete lack of professionalism and competence or even care this displays", it's more to do with creating a range of ads the successfully target different groups, as you say getting the message across to as many people.

Traumatise them, have you not seen the freakin video games they play now??? To many kids are desensitised already.
