I'm surprised he or she made it past Lakeland.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

You DONT need to drive gunshot. It is a macho ego thing. If I was that far from a city I would not drive it in a blue moon! I'd stop and slide down it on my back side with the kids!!!!

just watched it in slow mo
    those nissans have strong windscreens
cant believe it didn't break he hits the pillar pretty hard. broken snorkel ram and a dent. lucky he had the camper attached.
surely would have had a supply of clean undies in there

To me it looks like the front left wheel/bullbar actually hit ground rather than the pillar making full contact. This probably stopped the corkscrew effect he had started. If the slide down had been longer then he may have gone over regardless of having a trailer. Either way very lucky to get minimal damage and still be able to drive away.

It is quite possible that others/a spotter did try to stop him, re the line he took, but momentum took over and he was unable to get out of it (have a read of the comments below the video)

It certainly has changed a lot of the past year. Some of the other options don't look any better/easier. I'm glad we did it when we did.

is that the only way around / through / past gunshot?

am thinking of a trip up there and might not get furhter than that if that is the only way around.

I got my disco as car to use as a car, not for things like that

Probably the large wide Nissan bonnet obsured his view and he just did'nt see the imbankment.
I drive a couple of different makes on dirt tracks for work and have found this particulary when going over imbankments or similar.
Whereas with the Defender the driver position is up high and the bonnet is shorter and lower down.

Give me a Landrover for rough country anytime.
