Not a Landy Question small hole in water tank

Hi all, I have a small hole (pin hole) in my plastic water tank 300l tried patching it with a bike repair kit lasted for a while, any other ideas would be great, going to Aldi to get 10kg lawn fertilizer and going to give the yard a good drink to drain the tank and want to try again, would chemy weld do the job

Try calling your hardwhare store or even better a farm supply.
There are patchs available, the lower the hole on your tank the more preshure the patch has to hold.

You could try a small stainless steel self tapper and a dob of silicon .
Screw it into the pin hole and it becomes a plug.

is it used for drinking water , if so i would be inclined to go for a food grade patch on the inside as i think there been a pin hole size hole there maybe a flaw in the plastic which may crack or split if you try tapping or screwing any thing in there

If you can get at the inside, I would use a stainless steel bolt and nut, with two rubber washers. Size of bolt determined by the size hole, drill it out. If you cannot get at the inside, I would drill and tap and put in a S.S. screw with a rubber washer. But in most cases it should be possible to get a nut and washer on (with a lot of trouble) taped or glued to a suitable stick or pole. Helps to grind a point on the screw.

If the hole is from wear where it sits on its mount do not bother as the area all around will be too thin to repair.
My water tank from my camper trailer did that , so I tried to repair it by plastic welding. You get a heat gun and some zip ties and melt the zip ties into the hole.
Unfortunately my 1MM hole soon turned into a 50MM hole.
There are professional plastic welders around, but just check the plastic around the hole. They are not expensive new.

Hi all, thanks for all the replies its not for drinking, and it is close to the bottom on a seam so i guess it is a week spot from the maker of the tank great i cant get inside the tank either its a slim lime one. Would heating it up work try to melt the plastic a bit or boil some plastic and pour it over it. i am surprised its not more common thanks for the ideas guys.

Our's sprung a leak and was welded....under warranty.

We have a metal one in the new place.

fairly common our 3000lt tank sprung a leak fixed it with silicon and ss self tapper

You could get a "poly tank outlet".

Available from 15mm to 50mm, it's basically a hollow tube with an external BSP thread, and has one fixed flange on one side, and a flanged nut on the other, and a couple of rubber washers.

Just drill a hole according to the size of the unit, put the fixed end inside (feed it down a length of wire), with the thread poking through, and do up the nut on the outside.

The excess tube can then be cut down to size and capped, or fitted with a ball valve........... or converted to a sight tube to check the tank level.
