The vehicle weight tax is a new initiative of the NSW government, squarely aimed at rural people who generally don't vote Labor, but do need heavier vehicles because they have to drive longer distances on the unmaintained rural roads. It is part of a desperate attempt by the NSW government to make up some of the budget shortfall before they get turfed out in March.

I had a look at your RTA web-site, JD. The only vehicles not subject to the new charge are a select few hybrid drive cars, vehicles weighing under 975 kg, and various pensioner and carer concessions. Just a sneaky increase in registration charges to almost every motorist, not just rural dwellers. Not many cars under 975 kgs these days.Quote:

Yes , I have to pay some money extra for my heavy and fuel guzzling Honda Jazz. It is Oh Horror 1045Kg and only does 6.2 Lper 100Km.
The NSW government's creativity for new taxes is sensational.
The other newie is another property transfer tax, ostensibly to fund the state title Guarantee. Funny, a friend of mine is the ex deputy DG of Land Titles and told me a few month ago that the government had hundred of millions in the fund as claims are so low.

Khos I'd be avoiding the blue slip process at all costs. Been there, done that, never again.
Seems to me your list has to be
1. Rego Disco
2. Rego Rangie, within 3 months of due date
3. Repairs Rangie
4. Sell Rangie.
I wondered why the Rangie hadn't moved for a while at your place!

On the MAA CTP calculator there is a question on whether the car needs a blue slip.
I wouldn't put it past the insurers to increase the CTP on cars that need a blue slip. So maybe do a couple of run throughs on the MAA site to see if there is a difference in the CTP price for you.Only takes a few minutes.
My CTP has gone up from 294 AFAIR to 315 cheapest this year. That is almost 10%. Bastards.

If a pink slip is a roadworthy what is a blue slip?
Roadworthy plus check of identification. Required to register an unregistered vehicle or interstate registration. Pink slip is roadworthy, required annually except on near new cars (not sure of the age - I've never owned one that new!) plus when selling.Quote:
