    Hail damaged cars

So whats the go with hail damaged cars
I have the opportunity to buy a car from Victoria that has been written of due to hail damage and has been classed as a repairable write off in Victoria
Although there is no visible damage it is still written off and only needs a VIV inspection to get Reg

Can i registrar this car in NSW still
i know they are changing the law in October but can it still be done now

IN VIC The Viv inspection will cost from memory in the $400s. Vic roads take the car for a day and inspect it to ensure all repairs are done to Manufacturer's original specs.
Depending on how bad the hail damage is, DENTAWAY can do an undetectable panel beat less repair.
but you got to weigh up the cost of the dent repairs and the VIV fee to see if it's viable.
You would have to check your states regs on Vivs.

I rang the RTA and they said as long as it was written off before August 1st 2010 and it is not Reg there is no inspection just get a blue slip and away you go

I believe you cannot get comprehensive insurance (against hail damage anyway) for a hail damaged vehicle. Check with the insurance companies.

Also, a repaired vehicle will always be worth less than an undamaged equivalent. If you sell it in the future, you won't get as much for it.

Check the pillars. Any damage to them = cannot be repaired cheaply, or possibly at all.

For the price im paying i don't really care about insurance to fix my car ill just get cover for everyone else but me

As far as i understand i don't even need to repair the damage if it is still classed as in RWC condition in NSW

be careful because a lot of insurance companies in NSW wont cover it at all.
I have and drive one now and this year it was very hard to get cover for third party only and no chance for full comp.
I would be ringing some insurance companies and checking before buying another hail damage car now that they are changing the laws
