    One thing after another

Bought this range rover of mine for 600 clams with a busted centre diff. Bloke I bought it off had it partially pulled apart and had since upgraded to a new Rangie and had basically forgotten about the ol girl. "Just whip her out n whack a new one in" he says. " Easy fix with a bit of buggerin around ".

Now he's a nice bloke and was very helpful, and I aint knockin him. But Geezuz...a bit of buggerin around alright. I've been at it for a week. Got the thing out, spent two days cleaning exploded pieces of sungear and assorted other bits of metal out of the transfer case, went to the local rover guru for some parts. He has been extremely helpful informing me what do to do and whats shagged.

Have since got a new diff, put a new roller bearing and seal on the front output shaft as that was gone, spent ages cleaning and mucking around, thought I was nearly at reassembly stage today. But no. Check the diff lock actuator to make sure it works the guru tells me. So I do and sure enough its buggered, blowing what looked to be power steering fluid or auto trannie fluid out of it. God knows what used to be in this manual for oil before I got it. So now I'm hoping the actuator on my donor rangie is working and I can just swap it out. Otherwise I'm up for some more buggerising repairing or replacing parts on the stuffed one.

Please Range Rover Gods let there be no more broken bits. I'll be driving it gently when it gets put back together, I do not ever want to have to repeat this job again. Hopefully it will be worth it.

There you go my whinge is over...Moral of the story...Look after your Centre Diff, they are not fun...in any sense of the word!!!

What did you expect for a $600 car, a warranty Presuming its an LT95, centre diff changeover is quite easy, should only take a couple of hours tops.
Oh and be sure to use engine oil to fill it back up, not gearbox oil
Clean looking 2 door for $600 though

if it has a later model gbox it could well be auto trans fluid as it was the recommended lube for R380 gbox (and LT77 I think).
