    Birdsville races abandoned

Seems they have abandoned the second day (and last race yesterday) due to the rain. Birdsvilles expected to be cut off for around 3 days.
Gonna be a whole lot of p***ed people up there (literally and metaphorically)

Apparently the first rained out for 128 years

Not a good time for country race meets.

Country people are resilient, a flood always means better crops/grass next season.

Bad luck for the race day.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

They'll need to be there are already rumblings that this lot of rain may not be beneficial as the crops are already sitting in waterlogged ground, and may start to deteriorate.

Just wonder if the rain will be good or bad for the locust plague
Perhaps lot of water can drown the larve, I hope so.

I used to get a CSIRO newsletter & about 30 + years ago a huge locust plague was heading South in Western Vic causing total destruction & it just disappeared.
Then reports came in from fishermen 100k off Portland that there were islands of dead locusts up to 1k wide & 1m deep. It turns out that there was a hot night & full moon, the locusts swarmed up high, then a Northerly change & strong wind swept through & carried them all out to sea
    True.
    Aint nature amazing....

    Hi,

Surprising, I thought the birdsville had been canned all together this year, didn't even know that it had been un-canned?

its interesting, many of the folk couldnt get out of William Ck after the annual bronco branding either last weekend cause of rain, my mate left a few hours before revellries finished and just got out. Leigh Ck got hammered over night. the whole desert landscape has changed. Cant wait to see it on my next trip out there.

Talking fairly general there, been plenty of rain through SA/NSW/Qld over the last month or so.
