    Dilemma

    G'day Guys,

So, I'm looking at ordering a shiny new Defender in the coming weeks, but there's a catch:

I have limited room and my girlfriend has limited patience. She says the SIII has to go before I move another car (which she claims is exactly the same anyway) into the garage.

    What to do?

She may be suggesting a pretty sensible option, but I'm thinking I might fork out for a storage unit for a while. I can't beat the thought of parting with it after all that hard work.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I handle this delicate situation?

I know where you're coming from.
I went from living on 26 acres and 2 huge sheds to 500m2 with no undercover parking a few years back.
We had 4 vehicles and 1 motorbike, only 2 people with licences, and I did 99% per cent of the driving.

Sold them all, and bought a nice shiny disco.
Wish I still had a couple of them.....

After all the work, money and time you've put into it, it's understable you want to keep it. They get in your system. They are a lot of work to maintain and they're not the most practical or logical thing to have these days.
It'll continue to cost you money, and give you grief, and the older they get the more hard work they become.
Get rid of it, they don't appreciate in value with age.......

    Like a Series 3 does

Seriously...keep the Series. You won't get anywhere near what it's worth if you sell it, you'll wish you didn't, and you'll keep looking at other ones if you do.

    Good Luck

I agree, Storage is the best option,

She probobly wouldnt be to happy with being sent to a storage she somewhere so perhaps send her home to her parents or one of her friends places until she can accept you having 2 vehicles

My wife is similar, She recently convinced me to sell one of my cars i had for about 12yrs(its only taken her about 5 years of trying to get me to sell it) though its sad to see it go i wont regret it as all it was doing was sitting in the yard taking up space and not getting driven.

    Hi,
lots of empathy for your position.
With the new Defender we now have 1 surplus BMW 750 motorcycle (I no longer go into town to work) and 1 Toyota Dyna camper which just wont tackle where I now want to go.
They are just eating up registration fees and taking up space in the yard, but having had them both over 30 years, selling them to just anybody seems like betrayal.
    cheers

Try this - it seems to have worked with my wife:

get her to watch "Love the Beast" (the film by Eric Bana about his Ford XB )

Nothing beats Dr Phil saying "you'll feel a sense of betrayal..."
