Back in the 1970`s mum and dad went on a trip to N Z. They took the ferry between the two islands. It was at that time the second worst trip on record. The worst sank when the train that the ferry takes across went through the side of the ferry. Dad was tough as nails and did not get sea sick at all. He told us that he was out side hanging on to the railing and could see the propellers coming out of the sea as they went over the crest of a wave and the whole front of the ferry diving under the next wave. For some strange reason they flew back. Some thing about mum being over the excitement of the sea.

Rough seas is part and parcel of going to sea. Its not all "Love Boat" and Mill ponds.

Most of the people that got hurt were because of poker machines falling on them. Clearly they were not bolted down, indicated the operators of the ship and the crew know little about preparing ships for sea let alone heavy weather.

Yikes, few tonne of forklift sliding around like a matchbox toy.

That footage was cool but would have been better with some video from the bridge to show us the seas causing the chaos.

Yikes, nothing like a bit of roughers to sort out the loose items. Guess they didn't do a good job of securing for sea.

Never been on a cruise ship, my trips were all in ships painted grey. Would have thought they'd have a those tables bolted down.

Always fun having dinner like spag bol in rough seas. Put your plate onto a "sticky mat" so it doesn't slide but your dinner just slides off the plate.

I've got a pic somewhere of the old HMAS Swan with the entire front half of the hull out of the water on our way to the Philippines.

I've had a few too many drinks at that bar whilst crusing in Jan. Yes, the tables were bolted down to the floor by then. The chairs were still free to move about.

Interesting to see the force of nature at work...
