Do You Believe it Was 10 Years Ago ?

    Yep. The Sydney Olympic Games.

We had a great time during the Games. Went to many different events. In fact we just lobbed up and bought tickets to quite a few events without any hassles at all..even got into some of the finals.

Went into the city a few times by public transport and it was almost like a party on the trains....everyone was happy and we never encountered any trouble at all. Pity it can't be like that all the time.

Did anyone else enjoy the Games?

Just watched our video recording of the opening ceremony.

    Gday Erich,

Yep remember it well for all the wrong reason..The engine in the boat had a hemi and had to freight pistons and liners and turbo's whilst getting towed into Gove.
Problem was they went thru sydney airport and got caught in all the security crap and took 4 days to leave..Worse still the boats TV didn't work so couldn't even watch any of it..

Did buy the video and it looked impressive..

    Cheers Ean

Oh dear Ean. Sorry for your problems.

It was a pretty a good 2 weeks for us. We are only about 2ks from the Equestrian Centre and had lots of (horsey-type) friends stay or park their cars here while they attended. It was a very enjoyable time for us wandering in and out of town with friends.

Not to Worry Erich, had 10 yrs to get over that lot of problems, and had afew more since.
It looked like a great turn out and boy sydney looked to have changed alot since I was a youngen at school there many years ago..I used to try and catch fish from the wharf at the old rail yards that is now the Darling Harbour complex, down near Pyrmont bridge,,

Am sure its all changed for the better too..

    Cheers Ean

I didn't watch any of the Games - not even the opening or closing ceremonies. I was offered seats at a corporate event at the athletics but managed to get out of going by telling them we couldn't accept hospitality from a vendor. I couldn't imagine much worse than watching athletics (except watching football of any code).

The best part of the Games was the reduced traffic going to/from work at Paddington.

I had a great time as a volunteer driver for the IOC delegates. Had a fair bit of free time, got into quite a variety of events and met some wonderful people. The volunteers were looked after really well and like many activities, the more you were willing to put into it the more you got out of it.

Also hosted a family of five Canadians who were volunteers assisting the Canadian teams and sharing various aspects of the games with them (including Roy and HG who they absolutely loved) made for some very enjoyable times. Even found time to take them 4WDing and show them a bit of the Aussie bush and wildlife.

I feel sorry for those people who missed out on the wonderful experience.

No need to feel sorry Roger, this was my experience during the Olympics.

Personally I don't feel I missed anything, indeed spending time out travelling with my young kids was great.
