    Interesting coincidence

I work in the same building as a recently-infamous, youtube-luvin', smoker of religious texts. When he is not on leave he resides on the fourth floor.

A couple of days after the media frenzy we had mysterious window breakages on the 4th and 5th floors. Official word is that it might have been an object caught up in the high winds of the day. I had a chat with the security guard (who suddenly was posted in our foyer) who said there was a sizable hole, looks like a rock or it might have been a bird with enough momentum to break through double-glazing.

Not saying there is a connection but good fodder for the office gossip machine

Unless he smoked the Koran and Bible on university grounds, I can't see why they Uni is investigating with a view to possibly sacking him.

I can't see how they could sack him. He is a general staff member, and didn't associate his employer with the video. What he does in his own time is his own business, as long as he isn't breaking the law - which he doesn't appear to have done.

Obviously some people get worked up over trivial matters...

Quite frankly, I can see him being the target of a religious zealot as was Salman Rushdie over Satanic Verses.

In February 1989, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, issued a fatwa calling on all good Muslims to kill or help kill Rushdie and his publishers.[3] Following the fatwa, Rushdie was put under police protection by the British government. As of early 2010 Rushdie has not been physically harmed, but 38 others have been killed in violence against those connected with the book
Another example is the Danish newspaper cartoonist. Over 100 deaths have reportedly occurred over that. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jylland...ns_controversy

That's why I don't understand how he could be so naive. He must have realised the possible consequences.

There's talk in the article of how "it is not yet known whether Mr Stewart has breached QUT's staff code of conduct".

Hmmm....that would be a bit of a stretch, I'm sure. I'm fairly sure that no "staff code of conduct" would ever have a specific mention of not burning texts viewed as holy by the followers of that religion.

As he says, it's a book, just get over it.

    Hi,
one opinion I read was that he may be aiming at an unfair dismissal case, which it was argued he would win.
    Maybe/maybe not a plausible angle.

    On an almost similar subject:
    (Q) If a book of some other religious significance is burnt by a Southern American fringe religious leader; does it emit any light or make any sound if no one else is there?
    (A) Not if the cameras are turned off.

    cheers
