    Wasps

    Hi Guys
I once had a happy nest of wasps in my scrap steel outside my shed.
Quite obliging chaps, never have rowdy parties, dont get upset when you go near the nest, they hunt insects in my vegie garden and collect spiders and their eggs in the shed.As I say,the ideal neighbor.
These wasps have an extensive breeding programme and now have LOTS of nests.Time to cull them, they are non aggressive, just way too many.
Can anbody identify them???? Whats the best destruction method,Ive been told petrol on the nests at dusk.

    Thanks
    Andrew

    G'day Andrew,

Can't identify the wasps, sorry. I'm sure someone here will though.

We have the occasional issue with paper wasps building their nests on tree branches, under eaves, in the shed etc. and they attack and sting if we get too close or disturb them by accident. We usually wait till dark, as the wasps return to their nest after dusk, then give them the old One, Two with a can of fly spray. In the morning remove the nest and make sure the eggs (which may be in the nest and still alive) are destroyed as well.

We are presently having our annual "issue" with bees. Each spring they seem really interested in trying to make a hive in our wall cavity. We have blocked up all entry points around windows/doors etc. but they still give it their best shot. Sheila sprays "surface spray" in the places they are trying to invade and that seems to send them looking elsewhere.

    Good luck,
    Erich

    Hi Erich
    Just been Googling.
    They are European Wasps.
A good dose of Diesel after dark should suffocate them.
Last time I messed with Bees if copped a hammering, hope these critters dont get as angry.

yea,, not sure if its the heat or the soot

I think in the pipe I'd just load it up with something that would burn for a while---- or plug it?

Get stuff called waspkill, from your farm supply. Knocks them dead straight away not like flyspray. Squirts in a jet not a spray. Just stand back a bit, it shoots 10 ft or more. and give it to them. Magic . But as the can gets older it loses a bit of range, not that it matters as they drop and dont fly around anyway.

These buggas are settling down for the nite.
If I lite a smouldering fire near the them will it slow them up so I can give all the pipework/scrap steel a good soaking with diesel. The diesel wont be burning, the idea is to leave the diesel in the steelwork and the fumes get them with the sun on the steel.
Will get a wasp spray next week to get any I miss in the first war.

European wasps are 10 times more nasty as any bee and twice as bad as any other wasp.

They are vindictive and if they do not like you they will squirt you with a scent that they and their mates can use to track you down and attack at will some time after - and they will - they have a mean disposition.

They can sting repeatedly and the stinging site will be sore and a big red lump for up to two months - ask me how I know.

I would take on one or two if I knew I would get them but I would leave a nest to the experts or you are likely to suffer the consequences.

    Nasty bu%gers.
