One who doesn't know a Land Rover from a Jeep, probably why he's selling.

Probably used by someone one who uses the word Jeep, as a generalisation for a smallish 4x4 recreational vehicle(which it really is, Jeep originally being an abbreviation on GP - General Purpose - as used by Ford in their version of the military designed runabout CR vehicle of WWll fame. Jeep is a much more recent brand name.)
We all called our RCL Landies "gunjeeps" whilst we were in service in the 60s, although we were acutely aware that they were Land Rovers.
Have you ever written with a "biro" or perhaps Hoovered with a vaccuum cleaner. Both are similar generalisations and cases of brand names being accepted into everyday life. A bit like "googling" something today.
The Qld rego in a WA sale seems the most confusing bit of that sale although I can understand the way it occurs, the relevant paperwork could be interesting.
    Regards

being a POM I know only too well the Colloquialisms in use, there are differences in the UK / Australia as to whats called a: Diff, Axel & Axels, drive shafts, wings, fender, bumber and thats what springs to mind without thinking about it.
Working in IT the term Router has raised an eyebrow at times.
I think it just depends on which country someone originates as to what term they use, but we all know that.

But calling a Landy a jeep, it almost Blasphemous

Many people - particularly older types refer to all types of 4wds as jeeps - used to be a general term - just as all types of vacuum cleaners were called hoovers eg I am going to hoover the lounge room despite using a Dyson Brand cleaner. Same as Durex is not a brand of sticky tape but an older generic term for a condom.
