Never been there but great fishing I have been told.

If you are looking for charter fishing, give this crowd a call. They even have a 'Fender.

Karumba Fishing: Kerry D Fishing Charters - Barramundi Fishing

maybe I should mention that my brother in law owns it. (Paul & Kerry Donald), although I think his daughter (Cassandra) and her hubby (Daz) may have it now.

    Karumba

Thanks for that, we are going up to assist in spreading our Brother-in laws ashes . he was a real keen fisherman, it's just fitting we will be fishing at the time. I'll tell his wife about the charter business, she may know them. Cheers, Bob10

IF your time is limited aim for stops at Barcaldine and cloncurry overnight. Then its 4 hour drive the 3rd day. COmming back Winton and Roma.
Give the roadtrains plenty of space and dont drive at night, unless you want to kill hundreds of roos.
Two great campsites at Karumba, but little to do except fishing. Try and take your own boat, even a little tinny. The wildlife is fantastic and you get to see the sun go down in the west over water, brilliant.
I spent a month there at the end of the dry season September.
By November it will be WET, be prepared for Karumba to get cut off.

    karumba

Thanks, George, we will be keeping a good eye on the weather, it could be an early and intense wet , with La Nina in full swing. If there is any indication we will of course adjust our plans. We lived in Darwin for a few years and are aware of the problems associated with that time of year, but feel we must at least make an effort, the reason for going is the spreading of our Brother-in-laws ashes. I have to admit, being a keen fisherman, being stuck in Karumba for a while appeals to me , I dont think my wife agrees, however.

Had to keep windows up to beat the road kill pong.

    Hi Bob,

We were there about a week or so ago. A nice spot and hot as hell. We drove across from the east coast, stayed at Undara Volcanic NP a couple of nights then drove the Gulf Developmental Road to Karumba via Georgetown, Croydon and Normanton. We the went south via the Burke Developmental Road to Mt Isa via Burke and Wills Roadhouse and Cloncurry.

From there we've been north again to Lawn Hill NP (stayed at Adels Grove), then Kingfisher Camp for a couple of days (a nice place) before rejoining the Savanaha Way west of Doomadgee then west through Hells Gate into NT then Borrooloola and Cape Crawford.

    We are now in Katherine.

If you have any questions about any of the route just ask.

    Cheers, LandieMan

As long as you are off the road before dusk you wont have a problem with live roos
