You've hit a nerve here - This sort of price variation annoys the hell out of me!

Take an ARB air locker for example (my choice of locker), an Australian product, which seems to be fixed at $1250 from any ARB supplier in Aus, yet we can get one for $850 + postage from the states?? I can understand a Detriot being cheaper from the source, but in ARB's case it's a rip off

Who is to blame for this, greedy suppliers or greedy local resellers?

I'd love to support local suppliers, but when they do this, what choice do we have?

Also, how would this effect warranty? I'm assuming ARB won't support a locker bought from the states?

It is the free market - a supplier can ask what they think they can get away with. The price of a product bears no relationship to its production cost.

Also in Aust (if I am correct) you can only buy the ARB product from ARB stores where overseas there are many stockist in competition with each other.

It does not cost any more to build a Porshe than it does a Commodore but Porshe can get away with charging 5 times the Commodore cost - supply and demand.

I would disagree with the porsche thing, I think to make something better even if its weight in steel differs, does cost more money. The RR is still holding its own today after 10 years, it cost 1.6b to make, the most expensive car ever.

I think you're missing my point!

If it's designed & built here it should be cheaper here as we don't have to pay freight and import duties!!

I think we all agree, ARB are rip off merchants, however when you have 99% of toyota buyers driving their new car from the dealership to the arb shop and spending another 5k on accessories to help with the school run, arb would laugh at the suggestion of lowering prices for their own countrymen.

Very Niave, it's basic maths, watch what happens to locker prices in the States.

You are also talking about a country where business has been saturated to the point where there is often very low margins... thats why they come and go . They also rely on internet sales, no store, no real advertising costs and no warrant issues, service backup or support. Basically not their problem it is yours.

If you head in to your local ARB store, ask for a copy of the price list (They will be happy to proint one off for you) and actually compare you woill find they are not expensive in comparison to similar quality products.

But every one likes to pick ont he leader regardless of if it is Toyota, ARB etc etc

Despite what ARB like to tell us,the Locker may be designed here and assembled here. But a majority of the parts for it are made in P.R.C.
I have spoken to several resellers in the U.S. and when they have ordered parts for broken lockers (and despite what the ARB pundits tell us,they do break fairly frequently)The parts arrive in boxes with made in P.R.C. on them.I know of one well known reseller there that won't sell them any more!!!! Maybe here they just rebox them or remove the sticker and just give us the mushroom treatment.
