    G'day PhilipA

I used to do manual training(arts) at EB State in the mid 50's,and yup! those Churchie "Boaters" sure used to sail well out of a Drop Centre into Norman Ck going over the NC bridge "Canning Bridge" wasn't it ? I was one of those well behaved Norman Park State School kids then went on to the new Balmoral State High in 1958

    cheers

Ho your fitting up the wrong fella. When Paddo Terminus went up Jo was a humble backbencher with little influence. Clem Jones as Mayor was the architect of the trams demise....and for quite spurious reasons at that

Brisbane trams only ever ran at a profit during WW2 when enough people had no option other than to use them as petrol was hard to come by.

Decision to remove trams was due to the Lord Mayor of the time having an American company of specialist transport advisors come in and do a plan for the city to take it into the 21st century. Recommendation was to remove trams as the infrastructure was expensive to maintain and replace them with an expanded bus network. As part of this plan they also introduced the freeway network into the city and other innovations like dual carriageways to cope with the predicted traffic volumes as Brisbane and surrounds expanded.
