    Hi Simon

Well Im fairly new to Discos and havnt driven a manual one, but with the Auto based on what others say, offroad you get the torque multiplication advantages - very handy for difficult terrain and for towing of course.

Having driven ours a fair bit, the ZF Auto coupled with low range and it's 'manual' and 'sport' modes gives a very good range of gear, speed and engine speed control and pretty good engine braking as well. So I cant see any downsides of the auto - only advantages. And it's so and relaxing to drive :-)
    Cheers

Well we are pretty close to settling on a decision .... both parties have agreed that a 2004 Disco II 2.5ltr Auto is going to likely fit the bill and keep both parties happy. It will be comfortable enough for Mrs Rocker to drive and will also serve as a nice off-roader for Mr Rocker with a set of muddies.

Will post pics when the deed is done ...

    Cheers, Tiki.

Just shows mate - the NRMA can be like choice magazine...never let an automobile club near a true 4wd...to say that the D1 has limited off road articulation and wheel travel is absurd. It was better than anything else from any other maker...give me strength.

    Cheers

    Scott,

Yeah mate, I wasn't a believer, but I thought the review might spark some healthy discussion ... which it didn't. I think my lack of regular profile here was the cause of such a poor response from the readership.

I've got a back ground in Series Land Rovers ... had a bloody project IIA shorty for years but it became such a pain in the bum to finish that I flogged it off - not before Ace helped me move the bugger to our new diggs with his Disco. I actually blame Ace for giving me the Disco bug as I'd usually be a Fender/D90 man if I can get my hands on one.

A Disco with some lift and a set of muds is a pretty sexy beast in my view - beats the crap out of a yellow Datsun 180Y!

    Best, Tiki.
