    Old Maps on the net

    G'day,

i'm looking for old map dating from the early 1800's to the 1900's of blackwood in victoria. i have had a detector for a while now but i'm really getting into finding some old relics and artifacts around the old place. does anyone know of a place on the internet where you can download old maps?? i'm going to be doing alot of research around the wombat state and lederderg states forests, looking for old settlements and trying my luck there. any help would be great.

    cheers spanners.

Send me a PM and we can get in contact if you like.
I've taken a few trips up that way to look at the gold mine relics (mine site shafts, mullock heaps,ect.).
I'm always up for a trip so just yell out(open to the whole forum).
Go into the cafe(formaly genral store)and look over the door at an old housing map.
Call into the caravan park and grab one of the books on the history of Blackwood(good reading).
Lots of sites marked on the Meridian maps.
Also try the mining shops(Miners Den ect.) as they have simillar type maps of the diggings.

Don't forget to get a Minners Right also so you can keep what you find provided it fits the guidelines.
    Happy hunting

Years ago I got some good maps of that area from the Vic Mines Department, some were only of a particular mine, others were of the whole mining field. The one for Ballarat covered 3 A2 sheets but they are too fragile to take bush. Back then they were quite cheap.
Can you get copy of maps in the Public Library in Melbourne??
