Thread: Sandbags - Where can I get them in Brisbane?

Give your local SES a call. If they can't help you I am sure they could advise where to go.

plastic bags will work in the meantime, as sandbags- just the weight is the concern meaning you need to double/triple bag them. Ive not seen it done but cant see why the new shopping bags (reusable) couldnt be used if closed over right.

as said usually SES or your CFS will know.

Try the ses first and if they cant help then go to the council.

After a big dowpour a couple of years ago the ses were to busy to get to us but a council a council truck full of sandbags was in our street so we hit them up and they dropped a heap in our driveway already filled.

Got to a fruit barn and get a heap of hessian potato sacks, or big flour bags from a baker.
Have a look at them, most will be woven tightly enough for what you want.

plastic can be better than hessian

I've got them from Blackwoods, the engineering supply company. From memory they were cheap.

As I didn't have a car available this morning (see pictures of my dismantled County in Members' Rides ) I had to improvise. I dug out some planks and silastic and made a barrier, which I glued to the floor. It seemed to stop the flow so I went to work (big day today).

Over half the staff aren't here because of flooding or transport delays. I'll try to get some sandbags tonight. I'm off on holidays in a few days but am seriously considering buying a car on my return. Shame I couldn't find a decent Volvo 122 (yes, I know it's weird but I can't help myself ).
