Thieving scum!

There will always be a sector that no matter what / where they come from, want to be part of the group/ gang/ incrowd, and even tho they know right from wrong will be swayed to follow the leader, but I believe this to be a minority.

There is a big difference between having been given everything and having respect for those that have given it to you..If you dont have the respect for your parents, no matter how good they have provided then things will always be on a downward trend, lets face it if you dont respect your parents then you wont respect anyone else, or their belongings..Hence your story with the grandparents, no resect from that girl.

When I was younger my parents demanded respect from us kids and we also had respect for the police..I was terrified of being taken home by the police, and not only from my fear/respect for them , but the punishment that would await me at home, my brother and sisters were the same..(and we grew up in some of sydneys worse suburbs in thise days 70's)
My wife and i have raised our daughters to do the same..

As parents we all dont want to believe/ accept that our kids are the ones doing this, and sometimes its easier to look the other way, hope that its a phase, or generally ignore it, but at the end of the day Parents have to accept the blame as much as the kids( in most cases, not all)

A friend of my youngest daughter, was at the front of our house awhole back , now this kids parents are good people, 1 is a copper, the other is a nurse, and this kid dont like the rules at home so decides to bail, comes to our house and wants to stay..to her credit our daughter tells this kid to go home, and she cant stay with us, my wife rang the parents to let them know she was ok and we were sending her home, the next morning this kids at the bus stop asleep..You could tell by the way she talked about her parents that she had no respect for them, and hence the trouble that was brewing..

I dont know the answers wish I did, and im certainly not the greatest parent in the world, but while we live in a material driven envirionment and the family unit is not priority then I think it will only get worse

Again, hit the nail on the head.

I guess its a matter of doing what you think is best as a parent, thinking about their feelings on matters and not just your own and setting the limits. With any luck they'll grow up with their heads screwed on right.

Our materialist society has a lot to do with it. Everyone wants the two storey house, double garage, on suite, multiple flat screen telleys, two cars, ready made garden, etc, etc. The way people try and keep up with the Jones' is both work, they feel so guilty about not spending enough time with the kids they then make up with materialistic rewards and don't have the heart to discipline the kids.

Kids know all their rights and are prepared to use them and have some do gooder help them get out of a situation they don't like. Often this is a change at home where the parents notice that things might be getting out of control and try an instill some disciple on a kid that has not had any before, has been built up full of confidence and that no one should suppress their human rights etc, etc.

I think the easier we have had it, the more materialistic we get and the more troubled youth and depressed young adults we have got.

I don't for one minute think I have the answer, it is a tough gig bringing kids up these days.

Problem is as a parent you are not allowed to disapline the child anymore. My kids still listen but then the oldest is only 9.
Bring back the cane in school.

Discipline does have to involve belting etc. Couple of days without whatever their favourite game etc. Just have to be consistent.

All good points guys, and I think the answer is a multi faceted approach with many being made below. Just how that is implemented into society in a large and uniform scale in beyond me.

I think as well that many parents let there children sit on the board. By this I mean the kids are allowed to dictate the direction of the family. I have friends where there 4 year olds steers where and what that family does. These nephews I have, it has always been the case. It's like the kids were born kings, and the parents are the slaves.

Don't get me wrong, as kids get older they should be allowed to have impute into some issues and make selected decisions for the grater.
But parents should parent, they have the big picture, they pay the bills, they have the experience. Not make every experience positive and far better than it was for them.

I have to admit, these little kings mention above, rarely seem to get a clip over the ear or disciplined in a way that give them a reality check. Instead, the parents ask them what they want.

Some lowlife just broke into our car on Friday night. :angrylock: It was left unattended for ~25 minutes at Coogee beach carpark. My better half found the window smashed and her bag (which was barely visible) gone.

Interestingly, there were 2 other cars in the carpark at the time, and both were broken into as well.

We found some of the contents of her wallet at Woodman Point a couple of days later. It's one of the nearest carparks which are usually deserted at that time of the night. They must have had a car waiting, and driven down to inspect the loot. According to the "council security officer" it's a common occurence.

Scum!!!

At least she got her D/L and Medicare card back. We found several bank cards as well, but they were already cancelled. :angrylock:

On a related note, I noticed my hi-lift jack was missing off the back of the today. It was fixed securely, and a bugger to remove at the best of times, so can't have come off of its own accord. It was on there after the (first) theft though...

These things happen - lucky she found her D/L and Medicare card. The biggest pain is sourcing and replacing the window... Saab wanted close to $1000 for a new one!!! Got one from a wrecker for $100 - as a bonus, it is already tinted in a tint close to original :).

Likewise, sorry to hear. I can't believe the cheeky mongrels came back for seconds!!! No way it came of on its own accord. I remember barely managing to take it off even after you showing me how its done!!!

no that has to be another fourby owner you'd think. That's pretty bad, what we are talking, 100-150 bucks. unbelievable
