Can u upgrade hi and lo beams on D2a to HID

the heading is the question. I want to put HID spotties on so really would prefer that the Low beam be compatible ie, I wont be blind when i switch from Hi to low beam.

Search on fleabay for seller xenonlv. I purchased a set for the D2a landed for $160 odd bucks. They are genuine Philips German made HID conversion and are absolutely fantastic!
If you search under my posts, you will fimd the link to the shop.
As Tombie said though, you need to have SLS and headlight washer system according to most state laws.
You need H7 bulbs with no more than a 6000K output.
I am so chuffed with the improvement i'm probably going to do the high beam as well!

    Cheers

Just one thing I found with Hi/Lo HIDs is, high beam is useless unless you have the spotties on as well.

I would still say this is a grey area open to interpretation. I don't think you can safely say it is 100% legal. Just my opinion.

As far as technically: Just get two kits with the correct bulb type. They are pretty much plug and play. You just have to find a spot to mount the ballasts.

Legally, as I responded to Tombie, I think it is open to interpretation.

I think Hard Range are about to stock these. I have just installed a pair in our D2. They are yet to list them.

To be legal the HID needs to be contained within a projector tube and lens unit. This is because the focal point of a HID ‘globe’ is very different to the focal point of the Halogen you are replacing, why do you think all factory fitted HIDs have a completely different headlight assembly...

I also doubt the comments about SLS satisfying the point of “Self Adjusting Headlight Level”. On a D2 the SLS only controls the rear – drop a trailer on the tow bar (or heaps of weight in the boot behind the rear axle) and the front (and lights) go up – not to mention people playing with different coils ect ect, really don’t think the legislation makers are that stupid. My L322 rangie with it’s SLS on all four corners still has a headlight levelling module, and it reacts quicker than the suspension adjustments..

Way I read the ADRs is
1 must be in Projector tube and lens (ADR approved headlight unit designed for the different globe)
2 must have automatic headlight levelling
3 must have headlight washer system.

Simply if you look at factory HIDs they have a very different globe number like D1S, Halogen lights are labelled H1, H4, H7 ect. Under Australian law all HIDs with part numbers H(x) are not legal because all ADR approved light assemblies for HIDs don’t take H(x) globes, the lights are designed not to be interchangeable for the focal point reason.

In saying that, there must be thousands of cars running around now with this conversion, and I’ve only heard of one being pinged, but he was doing something stupid to attract the initial attention.

And like the oversize tyres debate - If I have or was to do this illigal mod I wouldn't be posting it... Only have to look at the number of people boasting on FaceBook (or similar) that they ‘knowingly did’ whatever they are accused of and going a row for it because the agencies and insurance companies now have teams of people scanning networking sites and forums for evidence and omissions once something goes wrong.
