Suppliers here pay the suppliers there - so we pay for their employees, the ones at the shipping company, customs department and then our own :D

Doesnt explain why I was quoted over $1400 for Old Man Emu suspension here when I can buy the same kit (including a steering damper that wasn't included in the price over here) for $806US. The stuff is made over here so why is it almost twice the price of the same stuff in the US?
I think a lot of Australian retailers need to learn that , thanks to the internet, we can all be international shoppers so you go for the cheapest. If that is in the States or the UK then so what.
Ivan
Everything from OS is better priced.. Until it ****s itself...
Then warranty becomes expensive.
Example: OME suspension - Buy it in the USA and ship here, no warranty in Aus...
Not saying its better or worse, but local supports locals, has warranty back up etc... Bargains from OS are great and mostly we can get a great deal based on economy of scale.
I buy all my Motorbike parts from America, cheaper and more selection available... But try to support locals for the Landy...
Interesting view..............now lets have another look.............
First, assuming that all Landrover dealers are on a level playing field then any dealer should be able to offer their parts in Australia on a par with what I have paid after taking the exchange rate and freight and all the overheads as suggested into account, as the dealer I have bought mine from no doubt has, therefore I should be able to buy in Australia at a rate equivalent to what I pay in the UK.
The problem is that I would be charged 2.5 times more by the Australian dealers??
Therefore the question is...Are the dealers in Australia having to pay much more than their UK counterparts?
Perhaps the structure of Landrover is to blame.... now I don't claim to know how they run their business but suppose that dealers in Australia are bound to purchase their parts from LRA and LRA purchase from Landrover UK at the same rate as dealers in the UK pay for theirs and then LRA pass on the parts with a profit margin to support their existence then that could be one reason why we pay 2.5 times more than we would pay in the UK.
Now if this is so then Landrover are perhaps double dipping at our expense
If this is the case then perhaps their business model needs revision, it is now a global purchasing market
It is not as though the price difference is reasonable, 2.5 times in my opinion is price gouging
And no, I won't be purchasing a container of parts, perhaps if I could buy at the same price as dealers in the UK yes it would be interesting and may be the reason that businesses like Rovacraft are with us but my thoughts are now on retiring and spending my money wisely, certainly not giving Landrover dealers in Australia $3K for the priviledge of purchasing my parts from them.
I do the ring around in Oz just to do the 'apparent' right thing.
Then send my order to either the UK or USA. End of story.
LR Australia are totally <expletive deleted> and I'm with Richard.
Can't excuse them just because of overheads. That's a BS cop-out and if you believe it's justifed you would have to be goose.
That said it's your money?

Thats a great way to make friends Andrew,,,
We have several LR employee's that make a damn fine contribution to this site,
over a long time--
Take your attitude elsewhere---
Re: Mikes point and Warranty
Although technically I agree, my experience with marine electronics differs ;)
I have bought both high end sounders and GPS plotters from the states, against the judgement of the masses saying: "blah blah blah no warranty the sky will fall down".
Anyways, just a month outside the warranty period the power supply in sounder dies. Rang the local Australian agent for said unit (outside warranty so figured I would have to pay anyways)- in Cairns. He said send it to us, we will send it to Brisbane, wait for a quote, minimum quote charge of $100 plus parts plus freight.
Emailed the US agent - "Ahhh, That is not good news. Send us the unit we will have a look and sort it for you"
Sent it registered post ($40ish dollars) just under 2 weeks later it arrives back to me. No charge for replacing power supply with upgraded software no charge for freight.
The difference is in the States, they have a huge market and the MOST important thing is good service to keep customers. Australia has small markets and everyone from wholesaler to dealer wants to ream you a little bit.
Maybe I was just lucky... but I doubt it.
Since moving out to the boonies, essentially all my "shopping" for pretty much everything bar food is done online or phone order. I am going to pay freight anyways.
I respect great service more than some misguided "Buy Australian".
If a more local busines gives good service I use them, if they ignore emails or dont phone back they lose business - simple. Why "support Aussie Jobs" if the employees dont actually do their job?
Peace
Steve

Firstly sincere apologies to anyone I have offended with my earlier comments. What I should have said is my relationship with LR Australia (Land Rover Dealership) is it's frayed.
Secondly it is not a personally attack to any individual who may work there or for them although in hindsight possibly hard to take it any other way.
Thirdly in the earlier stages of ownership I persisted with their (Land Rover Dealerships) over priced and very poor service for as long as I could take at the two in Brisbane. After many services including the stripping of the sump at one place, not fixing, followed up with some unbelieveable explanation, and then proceeding to the next Dealership only to drive away with the oil filter to all but roll down the street as I took off I was pretty well much at the end of road with dealing with them. (All occured about 18 months ago). I've got other stories but the oil filter is a classic.
I followed up with some reasonable feedback at the time(no expletives, very constructive) No response for LR (consistent with the very poor service).
More than happy paying a extra bit of cash for good service but paying extra for no service is too much.
Consider this spline vented.

This wasn't my experience with ARB when I broke an OME shock in Australia which I had purchased in the UK and fitted myself before moving over. (unless they have different rules for US and UK purchases)
A replacement was supplied FOC even though I couldn't prove that I was under the mileage limit, although it was within the 2 years, as proven by the invoice.
