Hi
I'm looking to get into some pretty low level four wheel driving, and having a look at a 1997 Discovery TDI that's done 260000kms this arvo. Could anyone offer some suggestions of things to look out for or ask about?
Thanks
SGB

Aside from that, the 97 is a good model, from 96 onwards they used the bosch electrics so you have less in the way of electronic issues, mine has been very reliable.
If its got high km's find out when the timing belt was last done, they need to be done every 80000km or so, if they cant tell you budget for it, you are looking at around $600-800, that includes the kit, it might be cheaper than that if you dont need the full kit.
Aside from that just check the general wear and tear. Look for oil leaks (i know, its a land rover), some can weap away for years and there isnt a problem, some may need immediate attention.
Check the panels, are all the gaps between them consistent, check around for signs of over spray on stuff, that indicates it may have been in a prang and not repaired properly.
Check the electrics in the engine bay, do the wires look neat and tidy or are there wires running all over the place. Dodgy DIY auto electrical work can be a nightmare.
